In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

As an elementary school counselor in Texas, we were required to take computer classes in order to get our clerical work done. Since about 1971, I've attended training, used the Apple Computer system and then switched over to Microsoft Windows for most of my career. I have been keeping abreast of various computer programs including: Word, Publisher, Excel and Publisher. Presently, I use Windows 7, but have used Windows 98 and 95.
I have been in education for 35+ years. Initially as a 5th grade teacher for 5 years, then as a counselor for 30 years. I have taught study skills lessons to students with emphasis on time management, prioritizing tasks, goal setting, becoming self-motivated, as well as having a positive attitude toward learning and the importance of success.
