I am a 45 year old mother of 3 boys. Since my first child was born, I have been tutoring kids in our city how to read, or helping them to improve their reading. I am very motivated to help every child learn how to read! I have 2 master's degrees. One is in Sports Administration and the other is in Education with a certification in reading. For 5 years, I have taught in the public school system, but maintain regular tutoring appointments in many subjects but particularly reading.
I always wanted to be a college track and field coach. Once I got married though, I realized that coaching a college track team did not fit well in my life. It meant lots of travel and that would take me away from my family. I decided that teaching is a similar field of work as it involves a good amount of coaching. I love tutoring because I am able to coach these kids to success. And it always makes me happy to see the kids finally "get" reading-this does happen to almost every kid at some point!
I have been a reading teacher for 15 years in the classroom for 5 and tutoring reading for the full 15 years. I have a Master's certification in reading.
In college, I received a minor in Biology so I am capable of tutoring all elementary level sciences. I also am a proficient speller and have many techniques to help students in this area.
I have a Master's in Reading which means that I had a whole year course of phonics instruction. Plus I am a great fan of using phonics to learn how to read.
I hope that you will consider me to help you. I am very motivated to help and enjoy to see the improvements as much as you do! I am a 45 year old mother of 3 boys. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
