Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (English)
I graduated from Virginia Tech in 2014 with a B.A. in English, in order to pursue a career in education. I have a passion for working with children, in order to help enrich their knowledge and well-being. I have nannied for multiple families in the past, where I tutored in general studies (grades K-6) and facilitated recreational outdoor activity (swimming, hiking, fishing, etc.). I was also recognized for participating in the Bulldog Instructional Tutoring for Students (BITS) program, actively tutoring individuals ages 6-16 every Saturday morning at Westfield High School in Chantilly, VA.
LetSwim, Inc. was my first professional job as a certified swim instructor, which allowed me to work with children, both individually and in groups. I was able to teach them proper swimming techniques and form through verbal instruction and fun aquatic games to keep them engaged.
I am skilled in my understanding of basic math and Algebra 1, and have previous experience using the SMART Board. When it comes to concrete numbers and equations, I am patient in delivery and work diligently to ensure the student solve problems and reach mathematical solutions themselves. I am also skilled in utilizing visual learning tactics.
My passion for psychology stemmed from taking AP Psychology in high school, scoring a 4 on the AP Exam. When I entered college, I decided that I wanted to pursue a minor in Psychology, taking everything from Psychology 101 to Abnormal Psychology. I spent a great deal of time studying the basics, so that my performance in the lab and on paper were superior.
Ever since my childhood, my parents knew I was meant to have a future in the field of English. I learned to read when I was three years old, and my kindergarten teachers would call home to rave about my incessant writing in class. I also used to read the dictionary for FUN (nerd, I know)! Not much has changed even after graduating from college. I still love to read and write, both creatively and professionally, and always pay a great deal of attention to proper grammar, vocabulary, diction, and sentence structure.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
