About Steven

My name is Steven, and I'm excited and pleased to be a certified Rank I math teacher and tutor here in Kentucky. I've had many years of teaching and helping students in elementary, middle, and high school math in which as a teacher I pride myself with helping struggling students, commonly those with disabilities, achieve success in math in which last school year for example, 31/32 (97%) of my students successfully passed the mandated State of Kentucky Algebra 2 End-of-Course (EOC) exam in which 26/32 (81%) received a score of 70% or better on the test.

I'm currently approved for the following math areas for tutoring: Elementary Math, Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus, ACT Math, and SAT Math. I can also tutor in AutoCAD, MS Word, MS Excel, and MS PowerPoint if one needs help with reports, spreadsheets, presentations, or getting started with AutoCAD if you have wanted to learn or would like tips on computer aided drafting.

My tutoring methods are based on students demonstrating step-by-step methods using whiteboards for work in which students demonstrate work on one side and write the steps on the other to demonstrate not just math but thought-processes behind the math, especially with important vocabulary words. I offer quizzes at the end of each tutoring session to determine understanding and the need for more practice, commonly those found in multiple-choice questions like those seen on standardized tests in which test taking procedures importantly are also emphasized.

I'm flexible about meeting times and places for your own convenience.

Thanks and I look forward to hearing from you soon and making your day better!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT Math

I tutor students in Elementary Math, Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2 and ACT Math.

Algebra 1

- Connections To Algebra
- Properties of Real Numbers
- Solving Linear Equations
- Graphing Linear Equations and Functions
- Writing Linear Equations
- Solving and Graphing Linear Equations
- Systems of Linear Equations and Inequalities
- Exponents and Exponential Functions
- Quadratic Equations and Functions
- Polynomials and Factoring
- Rational Equations and Functions

Algebra 2

I've taken College Algebra and Algebra 2 Concepts earning grades of A when I was studying as a math major at Nova Southeastern University in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. I'm also deemed under Highly Qualified status as a certified math teacher in the states of Arizona and Kentucky. I've finally taught Algebra 2 for many years at the high school level in which this past school year for example, 31/32 (97%) of my Algebra 2 students earned a passing score on the Kentucky mandatory Algebra 2 End-of-Course test (EOC) with 26/32 (81%) earning a passing score of at least 70% on the Algebra 2 EOC.

AutoCAD

I received a certificate of completion for Architectural CAD/Drafting using AutoCAD from Glendale Community College in Glendale, Arizona. I've also worked in the CAD/Drafting field designing architectural and civil plans using AutoCAD, Architectural Desktop, and Civil Land Desktop 1.0. I've taught AutoCAD both at the high school and college levels in Phoenix, Arizona in which I taught students how to program AutoCAD through a process called AutoLISP. LISP Stands for LISt Processing and is commonly used with all releases of AutoCAD up to date to help the user draw using AutoCAD more effectively and efficiently.

Elementary Math

I've taken Elementary Math Concepts earning a grade of A when I was studying at Glendale Community College in Glendale, Arizona. I'm also deemed under Highly Qualified status as a certified math teacher in the states of Arizona and Kentucky. I've worked with elementary math students as a volunteer tutor at an elementary school.

Geometry

- Reasoning and Proof
- Perpendicular and Parallel Lines
- Congruent Triangles
- Properties of Triangles
- Quadrilaterals

- Surface Area & Volume

Microsoft Excel

I understand how to format, type, edit, print, and save a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet, notably as a PDF file. What's more, I have often proficiently used Microsoft Excel as part of my job-related duties especially when I've been asked to create either pie, circle, or bar graphs from spreadsheets of data. I've finally taught students how to use those same Microsoft Excel procedures when teaching AutoCAD at the high school level in Phoenix, Arizona.

Microsoft PowerPoint

I'm familiar with creating, editing, animating, and transitioning any Microsoft PowerPoint slides as I've proficiently done PowerPoint presentations as a teacher for many years.

I've finally taught students how to use those same Microsoft PowerPoint procedures when teaching AutoCAD at the high school level in Phoenix, Arizona because students had to do a PowerPoint presentation as an authentic assessment of all the AutoCAD topics that they learned throughout the school year.

Microsoft Word

I understand, how to format, type, edit, print, and save a Microsoft Word Document, notably as a PDF file. What's more, I have often proficiently used Microsoft Word as part of my job-related duties. I've finally taught students how to use those same Microsoft Word procedures when teaching AutoCAD at the high school level in Phoenix, Arizona.

- Solving Equations
- Multi-Step Equations and Inequalities
- Factors, Fractions, and Exponents
- Rational Numbers and Equations
- Ratio, Proportion, and Probability
- Percents
- Linear Functions
- Real Numbers and Right Triangles
- Measurement, Area, and Volume

Precalculus

I've taken Pre-Calculus/Trigonometry earning a grade of A when I was studying at Glendale Community College in Glendale, Arizona. I'm also deemed under Highly Qualified status as a certified math teacher in the states of Arizona and Kentucky for Pre-Calculus/Trigonometry. I've taught Pre-Calculus/Trigonometry for many years at the high school level.

SAT Math

As part of my duties when teaching Algebra 2, I was mandated to cover SAT math topics with respect to not just topics covered on the test but test-taking strategies, especially when using a TI-83 or TI-84 Plus Calculator to prepare students for the test as part of my Algebra 2 Lesson Plans. I would often give these kinds of questions as either an introduction or conclusion question during each Algebra 2 class.

Trigonometry

I'm deemed under Highly Qualified status as a certified math teacher in the states of Arizona and Kentucky for Pre-Calculus/Trigonometry. I've taught Trigonometry for many years at the high school level.
