Hi, I’m Juliana! I graduated from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in May 2022 with a major in Biological Engineering and a minor in Brain and Cognitive Sciences, accomplishing a GPA of 4.8/5.0. After being kicked off campus due to COVID-19, I began tutoring elementary school math through an organization called CovEd, and quickly realized how much I enjoyed tutoring and looked forward to tutoring every week. I continued tutoring elementary school math for 1.5 years, and more recently have been tutoring a first year at my university in an introductory biology course, and she has accomplished A’s on every test she has taken while I have been tutoring her.

My approach to tutoring is really emphasizing that the student understands the reasoning behind why a certain approach is appropriate for solving a problem, as well as understanding the problem itself. While memorization might be tempting as an approach for certain problems, in order to learn something fully and be able to apply knowledge, one must be able to make sense of why a strategy is used, rather than just know how to use it. For explaining new concepts, I am able to easily draw parallels or draw upon knowledge a student already has to make new concepts more familiar. I also make sure to explain to students why a concept is important to learn or where it is applied, as it is much more fun to learn about concepts when you know why they are important to learn! I make sure my students understand a problem and the approach by having them explain their thought process while solving a problem. From there, I can identify where a student may be misunderstanding something and can work to correct it. I am also happy to incorporate different teaching styles for each student as I want to make sure the experience is as beneficial as possible for the student.

I am always open to feedback and am very easy to reach and quick to respond. Feel free to reach out with any questions you might have, or to schedule a lesson!

Growing up, I always enjoyed t
