About Michelle

I am a cuma sum laude 2013 graduate with a 4.0 GPA from UW Whitewater with a Bachelors in Early Childcare Education (birth to 3rd grade) and special needs as well a a business minor. During schooling, I attended both online and face to face classes. I am also a mother of three, two of which have ADHD and social anxiety. I currently am a daycare director, including a school age program, with 40% enrollment being special needs. I have experienced an array of special needs from medical and physical delays, cognitive and speech delays, as well as ADHD, ODD, autism, down syndrome, and explosive disorders, just to name a few. We also work with DVR providing internships within our daycare for adults with special needs.

I am in the unique position that I can relate to families with or without special needs (my middle child does not have special needs and graduated in her top 10% of high school and is currently attending UW Stevens Point) and their children. I am also in the unique position to help current adult students as I am a recent graduate from the university system and have a daughter now attending. I can help all students to find their best approach in learning, whether it's face to face or online courses.

Though I am proficient in many subjects, my strength is in writing, reading, and memorization skill sets. I am proficient in math through algebra and that includes early college math courses. I am also proficient in general science through biology. Part of my philosophy is hands on learning; sitting in a room may not always be the best place to learn. If the subject allows, we may go explore the world and perform experiments that help in the learning process.

Sometimes it's not the subject matter that the student is struggling with, but the learning approach overall. I will help the student overcome barriers by working through different strategies until we find one that best meets the students needs.

Building a relationship with the student and/or family is vital to success as well. There must a mutual understanding of one another to help push through barriers that might present itself. One way to achieve a great relationship is to learn how the student learns, so that I can build in strategies that will benefit the student in future learning opportunities. I am looking for long term relationships to help students achieve.

In the end, my most beneficial trait is my patience and sense of humor. Having three older children and running a daycare has taught me to have patience and humor with children, students, and families. Sometimes, the answers aren't always apparent and we have to try several different strategies to be successful but in the end I won't give up. There is an answer to every barrier that presents itself, we just have to be patient to find it.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADHD

I am qualified for ADHD/ADD because I have a degree in Early Childcare and Special Needs from UW Whitewater. I also have two children of my own (ages 14 and 19) that were diagnosed at a young age with ADHD. I run a child care center where many of our school age children have been diagnosed with ADHD/ADD and I work with the parents, staff, and students to provide strategies to be successful. With my education and experience in different environments, I have learned many different strategies to help the child focus, including mini work sessions with breaks, breaking down large tasks into smaller tasks so it's not so overwhelming, creating time tables and lists, and keeping the study area free of distractions.

Common Core

I graduated from UW Whitewater in 2013 with a bachelors in Early Childhood and Special Needs. Part of our studies was on common core and the expectations that teachers must have on students today.

Special Needs

I have a bachelors in early childcare and special needs from UW Whitewater with a 4.0 GPA upon graduating in 2013. I am currently a daycare director of children with special needs and am a service coordinator for birth to three.

Study Skills

I have helped many people throughout the years with study habits from my own children to co workers. Currently, as a daycare director, I work with the school age program to establish study skills that include strategies for all children, including those with special needs.

Michelle is amazing!

I am currently working with Michelle to help build my math skills. Within the first few minutes I felt very comfortable with her. I am looking for someone to work with for a long time. (You can't learn everything about math in one session.) As an adult with A.D.D. and a learning disability, math is not an easy concept for me to process. Michelle put me at ease, her children have A.D.D. and A.D.H.D
