I have played a lot sports competitively and for fun. I competed in high school in the following sports: Cross Country, Basketball, Track, Golf, and football. I also played baseball competitively through a private traveling team. I have played a lot of other sports just for fun including: ultimate frisbee, soccer, swimming, indoor soccer, tennis, racquetball and a few others. I have coached basketball and a few other sports. I enjoy the outdoors and physical activity. I promote good health always! I also have injury prevention methods to use before, during, and after participating in physical activity.
College Algebra is the highest math course I have completed. I enjoy math and numbers. I am able to teach fun and effective methods for kids to use. I also help transfer working problems out on paper to mental math skills through small tips and tricks I have learned from multiple math teachers.
I currently intern at a church as the youth ministry director. I work with kids and teens on a regular basis. I speak at weekly services which has helped me communicate with kids and teens fairly well.
My tutoring methods are the same for most all my subjects and sports. I believe we all fail and all fall short in one area or another but I believe the learning happens in how we respond to that failure. We respond by trying again and maybe trying something new or coming up with our own solution to solve whatever task is at hand. I do hands on teaching through trying and failing and trying again until we succeed. I do not believe in giving up. I do believe in starting small and working your way up to bigger things. We should celebrate the small victories. So completing something minor is a big deal because when you add enough small victories together you win the war.
I also see where a child is at before I start so I know what maybe overwhelming or too much to take on at first but do believe in facing challenges when ready. I see potential and do my best to use every bit of it up. I have played a lot sports competitively and for fun. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
