About Jamie

The world of creative writing is a vast one, encompassing everything from fantasy and fairytale to creative nonfiction. It is found in some of the strongest and most captivating academic papers and news articles, short stories, fanfiction, and novels or series regardless of their topic! The one thing these great works have in common, is that they have something important to tell – a story – and as their writer, you are the storyteller.

As your Creative Writing Editor, Tutor, and Reviewer, while I will perform general corrections to grammar, punctuation, and spelling, my main goal will be getting to know you as a writer. In doing so, I will make suggestions and comments on your work that will enable you to become an even more consciously creative storyteller! Whether it’s a first draft or if you simply want another look at your work before submitting to a publication, all stages of writing can benefit from this sort of one-on-one work, especially when that other person is a writer just like you!

One of the greatest things to shape my writing has been the concept that a writer can either “take or leave” the comments or suggestions of both everyday people and their fellow writers. All the same, simply receiving those comments can help a writer to grow and see what their audience wants, as well as enables a writer to understand how their work is interpreted by someone else’s brain.

My love is for writing, but my passion is for storytelling!

I have won awards for excellence in Journalism, Creative Writing, Poetry, and general Academic works, and have also published several pieces of my own in literary magazines and newspapers. My experience also involves playing part in the editing and final-say teams of several newspapers and literary magazines, which lends me the experience to know just what these publishing groups look for when they read someone’s work.

I graduated in 2015 with honors and a Bachelor’s Degree in English alongside a Creative Writing Minor. I was also recognized by the English department for my writing skills and was praised by one of my professors as "one of the best writers I have worked with in 24 years."

I am currently working toward a Masters in Creative Writing with an emphasis on Fiction.

Whatever your goals, I hope to be working with you next, my fellow writers and writers-in-training!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Study Skills

As an honors college student who has alternated between commuter and on-your-own online schedules all while maintaining an online store, I understand the importance of time management above all else.

Not every subject can be approached in the same way, and not every student best learns in the same way. Be it flashcards, practice drafts, or even drawing out diagrams, every subject has an angle that a student can excel at - all while remembering that daily studying should also be rewarded with times of relaxation and fun to recharge the mind.

I will work with students to optimize their living space and schedule, as well as stress the importance of short bursts over long periods rather than cramming for tests and wearing themselves out.
