About Katrina

I am a teacher looking for summer work as a tutor. During the school year, I am a sub for Kenosha Unified School District. I double majored in early childhood and elementary education and am certified in both in IL. I have 16 years of teaching experience. I prefer working with children from prek-5th grade. I have 3 sons that all have ADHD. I work a lot with children who have academic delays/learning disabilities and ADHD, in addition to, children who struggle with math and reading.

I love teaching math; I was very good at math growing up. As I mentioned, I work with many children who struggle with math concepts. I try to make math very hands on and tactile for my students.

I break down reading by using phonics structure and stretching of words. I have my students work with small reading passages and build reading skills with comprehension questions and reading stamina.

I love teaching science concepts as I do math. Science is very hands on learning for most students. As they work through experiments, I ask lots of questions as to why things are so in the experiment. The children need to document their data in a way that they can use it again for further information.

Handwriting is an important skill that is fading quickly with the use of technology. Children still need to learn how to write nearly in both print and cursive writing. Practice of handwriting helps the children retain this skill.

As a preschool teacher, I have utilized several phonics programs. I adapt what I have learned through the years, and incorporate the skills into reading, speaking and writing skills that children understand.

I make great use of humor in my activities and lessons. When children have fun, they want to learn more! I use this technique in all of my teaching and I make excellent impressions on my students and their parents.

If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
