Carthage College (Business Admin. Marketing)
Jones International University (MEd)
I retired from business a few years ago and earned my Master's degree in Education. I graduated cum lade for both my bachelor's degrees and my master's degree. I worked with a wide variety of clients in my job and gave classes or tutorials on work related topics and discovered that I liked teaching and working with people.
I enjoy working with small groups or one on one with individuals. I have 8 grandchildren from 14 years old down to 2 years. I frequently work with them on homework and projects. I would like to expand this and help individuals who are interested in learning.
I have been building computers for my family's use for 30 years. I have worked with MS Word, MS Excel, MS Project, fairly extensively over the years. Everything from basic keyboarding skills, to configuring systems and software to work for the purpose it needs to.
Microsoft Project has been used for my work projects for the past 25 years. It works well to balance resources to requirements to time constraints and helps to make potential "pinch" points in a project stand out.
With 30 years' experience in business, I have been exposed to a wide variety of issues and solutions and business challenges. I have been involved with order processing, inventory management, billing, distribution, and deliveries to customers.
I am interested in helping students. I look forward to speaking with you and scheduling lessons and us working together in the future.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Starting in little league, I played outfield, pitcher, then first base, third base, short stop, and catcher. I played during my high school years and some during my service in the Marine Corps. I played softball in my corporate life against other corporate teams. My experience is as a player never as a couch or organizer.
Working as a consultant, I worked with several businesses in developing software to support their operations. This included working at a nuclear power plant, at a bank developing systems to support their field operations, then at a mortgage insurance company developing a billing system, from there working with an insurance company working on auto insurance processes and finally to an consumer package goods company where I worked on marketing systems, inventory systems, and a distribution system before moving on to work on Research Development and Environmental systems. This included making enhancements to a Global Formula System, a Global Packaging System, a Global Material Safety Data System. Then I moved into leading a team that developed document imaging solutions for the accounting, legal, customer service, tax departments. Starting in the United States and learning and incorporating their processes into the application, Next we adapted the systems and incorporated them into Canada. Then into the United Kingdom, then France and the Netherlands. The last few years were spent migrating and adapting the processes to put 5 South American countries followed by 7 Asian countries using the system.
During this time I earned my undergrad degree in Business Administration and Marketing.
My father taught me the basics of chess when I was about 9 years old. In the 4th grade with 3 of my classmates we organized and ran a chess tournament. I played with friends and family for several years after that. I taught my children to play and have been teaching my grandchildren to play. I consider myself to be an average player.
I was a programmer for approximately 30 years. I taught myself basic programming on my first home computer. I learned COBOL in the Marine Corps. Dabbled in IBM 370 Assembly to repair and maintain some subroutines. I learned Mark IV, then Natural Adabas as it was needed in my organization. I dabbled in several other programming languages as needed to accomplish the task.
I have used Microsoft Project for both large 2000 hour projects to small, 40 hour projects to help manage resources, timelines to critical delivery dates. I find it an easy way to speak to upper management to emphasis critical paths and resource constraints. One of the best features of the software is the ability to drill down to very fine detail and then roll it up to show only the major delivery dates and progress. This makes it the ideal way to communicate with your team, clients and sponsors in a way that they appreciate.
I began working with networks using token ring. Shortly after that entered into Ethernet networks. I usually just dealt with whatever authentication protocol. Once my family started growing, I built a home network. Putting in routers and switches to make sure 6-8 computers all performed well during their gaming efforts kept me aware of issues related to the different hardware components in the network.
I have a Master's degree in education. I have many grandchildren I have read to over the years.
