About William

I have taught at the college or university level for almost ten years now. I have a broad base of understandings and have taught classes from humanities to finance to economics to literature. I took college calculus and have above-average writing skills. I also have a series 7 license and feel comfortable tutoring for those exams.

Both of my parents were teachers, so I feel that teaching or tutoring is in my DNA!

Passion and patience are the key to teaching.

Give me a call and we can learn together!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT English

I have taught basic English skills as part of a college prep course and constantly edit student work for grammar, but I believe in effective writing as a crucial skill in the digital age.

With my help, students develop the understanding of the rules of grammar, but also the ear for good writing.

ACT Math

I have tutored many hours for this subject for the ACT and feel that my students respond well to the methods I employ.

ACT Science

Before I decided to study International Relations and Business, I almost wanted to become a mad scientist. I took some physics in college but couldn't get up early enough for the Saturday morning labs (I had to work on Friday nights in college).

Algebra 1

I consider myself good at teaching the concepts and relationships before suggesting the rote use of formulas.

When students can grasp the concept first, they are more likely to grasp more complex concepts later (math builds). At the least, they develop critical thinking skills grow more comfortable visualizing abstract relationships.

Basketball

I played basketball in high school with excellent coaching. I played while in college, but not for a college team. Both my high school coaches became WI hall-of-famers.

I am comfortable that with the coaching I had, and the fact that I played for so many years afterward, that I could help and coach someone.

Bill

Business

I have an MBA from an excellent school. I teach finance and economics at the college level.

I have many years as an investment advisor and a marketing consultant.

Bill

CFA

While not a CFA, I am a professor of finance and have held numerous licenses for financial services (six in total).

I am confident that I can tutor this subject effectively.

Sincerely,

Bill

Finance

I teach some mostly introductory finance courses to adults and helped to design some finance curriculum.

I can introduce you to the concepts and show you some tools.

Bill

Geometry

I took college calculus and might only need to briefly brush-up on some aspects of Trigonometry. I always felt comfortable with Geometry in that I was able to understand the relations first and in some cases could then generate the formula logically from that understanding.

Praxis

I have taught at the college level for ten years, and this includes courses in world literature, finance, economics, international studies, sociology, and more.

I had college calculus, so I can handle the math.

Overall, I have a broad educational and teaching base and am used to teaching adults.

Religion

I taught World Religions and Diversity multiple times in recent years as a college facilitator for a major educational institution. I also taught many sections of Diversity for a local university in a classroom or online environment.

Series 63

I held the 63 for almost twenty years in AZ and had to take some continuing education tests. I also had to recently retake the exam as part of a combination license that included the series 65 license. I currently have an active license for 7, 63, and the advisory license.

Series 7

I was a securities professional for twenty years and took numerous licensing and continuing education tests. I held six licenses at one time and currently hold two active licenses, having recently had to retake one. I recently took many practice tests for the Series 7 before I learned that they waived the test for me.

Study Skills

I understand note-taking strategies and reading methods as I have taught college orientation classes. I understand the different learning styles and intelligences.

TEAS

I have been a college instructor for almost 15 years. I tutor test preps like ACT, SAT, and GMAT. I have a Masters Degree (MBA) and have taught classes across several disciplines including English, Humanities, Business, Ethics, and Communications.
