Hi, I am in my ninth year of teaching reading and math interventions for students in grades K-5. In this role, I effectively pinpoint students' areas of weakness, while building upon their strengths. Using a variety of hands on learning tools is a must, ensuring that students are never bored. I am interested in multiple learning styles and therefore utilize singing, movement and other creative elements whenever possible/fitting. I have a variety of assessment tools to track your student's growth and progress monitor. Additionally, I can provide tips to you for assisting your child in between sessions. I am effective, efficient, patient and children will enjoy the success they experience with my assistance. Thanks!

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am certified to teach grades K-6th. I have a Masters in Reading Instruction, and a Bachelor's in General Elementary Education with an emphasis in Mathematics. I am also able to get the resources to tutor in subjects such as Science and Social Studies.
Many of the students I work with in my classroom are lacking the fundamental phonics skills which would enable them to decode and read more fluently. From alphabet sounds to short and long vowels, to more complex blends and digraphs, students who lack these skills most often struggle in reading fluently and therefore comprehending. I have taught Title 1 Reading interventions for over 7 years. Phonics is an important part of reading and by using assessment data I am able to determine what specific phonics skills students are lacking and how to help them in this area.
I employ a variety of tools to help students gain essential study skills. Students may benefit from the use of organization of notes, proper use of a highlighter, use of index cards, post-it notes and questioning techniques. Once students have the proper study skills they are able to effectively preview and review material for a test.
