Hello. My name is Amy,
I am a registered dietitian who specializes in academic coaching, dietitian (RDN exam) test prep, and mathematics. My primary focus as a tutor is to help students who struggle with the mathematical components of clinical nutrition/dietetics, food service management, and culinary math. However, my expertise as an RDN is not limited specifically to topics that directly involve mathematics. Nor is my expertise a math tutor limited solely to tutoring dietetics students.
My Tutoring Philosophy: My diverse professional background in dietetics, wellness coaching, and education have prepared me well to assist students who could benefit from a highly individualized student-centered approach to learning. As a tutor, I strive to listen carefully to my students to better understand their unique goals, learning preferences and learning needs. I passionately embrace intellectual and cultural diversity. In fact, I consider working with students from diverse backgrounds one of my greatest strengths. Above all else, I believe the key to guiding a student toward achieving his/her goals is knowing how to foster a since of accomplishment and self-confidence within the student over the course of time.
In addition to instructing students, I am also committed to advancing my professional skills and content knowledge within the field of dietetics. Currently, I am taking self-study courses to help me prepare to set for the National Board of Nutrition Support Certification (NBNSC) offered through ASPEN.

Professional Background/Past Teaching and Tutoring Experience:
I spent a majority of the past 15 years of my professional career working as a registered dietitian/nutritionist specializing in exercise science and wellness coaching. Along the way, I have enjoyed tutoring, teaching, and coaching junior high, high school, and college students in both academic and non-academic settings. Over the years, I have served as an instructor, substitute teacher, teaching assistant, cross-country coach and/or paraprofessiona

I have had the privilege of tutoring a diverse range of students with respect to age, culture and intellectual ability. This includes students in grades 5-12 enrolled in public schools, private and parochial schools, and even a facility for at-risk students/juvenile delinquents. I have also tutored junior college students and college students majoring in dietetics, nursing, and other health-related fields. Additionally, I have served as a substitute teacher at just about every grade level (Pre-K -12) in my hometown's pubic schools (Platteville Public Schools, Platteville, WI). As a tutor, I enjoy the challenge of coming up with practical real-world examples of how specific math concepts relate to a topic(s)which I know my students have an expressed interest (sports, hobbies, career interest, nutrition, baking, etc.).
Geometry,

Geometry

I am an aspiring math teacher with experience tutoring both high school and college students in math, science, and several other courses. In spring 2018, Geometry was one of the primary courses I tutored students in while working as a paraprofessional (teaching assistant) at the Woodward Academy (Woodward, IA). Geometry has always been one of my favorite subjects in math ever since I was first introduced to it as a high school student. I had an excellent teacher who explained things well and the course content seemed to come naturally to me, especially the proofs.

Very helpful

Amy was able to help me out with some nutrition related problems such as TPN. Was able to go back to the basics and explain things clearly. And was very flexible and helpful overall.
