“**A great help!**”

I love tutoring math to students at all levels from elementary math through college level calculus as well as physics and general chemistry. My goal is to make learning an enjoyable experience for my students, working to help them reach their full potential. I have the ability to make what seems difficult and complex easily understood.

Sam is very responsive and friendly to our tutoring requests. He is extremely competent in his knowledge of the subject matter.

Sam is a very experienced and knowledgeable teacher. He is able to articulate difficult facts in a simple manner. He is very patient and I am enjoying learning with him.

My daughter was so happy that she had a much better understanding of the Calculus topics which Sam explained during their first session, that she shared them with her classmates (who are also struggling) that day.

Sam is very knowledgeable. He's got good resources at hand and is willing to use them when we need to. Very helpful in understanding complex subjects.

My son struggles with his geometry. The way he is taught in school is difficult for him to get it. Sam has a way of explaining it to him with patience and care. Sam has been great with helping him get through the rough spots with geometry!

Sam is a brilliant man with great knowledge of financial management and financial theory. Plus, he went to HARVARD!!! Sam is a kind man and explains complex concepts in a straight forward way. Thank you Sam!

Sam is doing a great job working with my son on Algebra. My son has struggled relating to his math teacher's teaching style. Sam has really helped my son feel more comfortable and confident.

Sam did a great job tutoring my son with Algebra 2. He is knowledgeable and very patient. I would high recommend him.

So great to have Sam review tests with my son. Pinpoints his issues. This was especially great because my son felt like he understood the material but then got a D on a quiz. Sam showed him how it was about answering the questions just as asked.

Reliable, started on scheduled time. He reviews my assignment via Skype with me and if I don't get it the first time he will explain again in more simple terms. Always checks in to make sure I am following.

We discussed a review of my classwork and working to do math in other bases, and he helped me to better understand how to work in other bases.

Mr. Sam helped me understand mechanics of material like it was algebra. He knows his stuff and is very confident with providing a solution to any questions thrown at him. He was my guru in mechanics of material. Highly recommend him to any one struggling with that class!

Sam has obviously taught a lot of children and is very patient. My son gets easily frustrated by math, but he and Sam practice for a long time and there is never any anxiety on my son's part. I believe Sam is really boosting his confidence. For the first time ever we got a note from the teacher noticing his marked improvement in attention and attitude toward math. Thank you, Sam!

Tonight was the 1st night my son and Sam worked together. They got right to work and accomplished a lot! My son left feeling more confident in the information and even worked a little ahead of his current work. My son and I agreed that by learning ahead, it removes that lost feeling he's been struggling with at times in class. Sam is very intelligent, and we've already scheduled our next session. I would highly recommend Sam as a tutor. Thank you, Sam!

Sam has done a great job thus far. My daughter has made a good connection with him and enjoys his tutoring in a way that she understands. From his tutoring so far, it has been giving her more confidence in the subject she has been getting the help in. Very pleased with this and the continued help.

Thank you. This is greatly appreciated!

Sam has been working very effectively with my older son for a few months, and this week had a great session with my younger son. He is able to engage both my sons, who are very different from one another, with his friendly and low-key, but businesslike, tone. My younger son didn't want to start studying math in the summer, but quickly found it fun and rewarding. Sam has a lot of expertise and clearly loves the subjects of mathematics and chemistry.

My son is excited about chemistry and math again! Sam has done a nice job building trust with him and teaching him new ways to think about tough subjects. He explains concepts well and allows him the opportunity to apply his new knowledge through actual problems.

Sam has helped my son over the hurdles of pre-calc with tremendous patience and knowledge. He also helped raise his math ACT score by 4 points. I highly recommend him.

Approved subjects are in **bold**.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

In teaching Advanced Algebra and Precalculus, I cover the following topics with the student.

1.Review of Word Problems and Dimensional Analysis,

2.Linear and Quadratic Functions,

3.Polynomial and Rational Functions,

4.Exponential and Logarithmic Functions Including e, the Bases of the Natural Logarithm,

5.Sequences and Series,

6.Complex Numbers,

7.Trigonometric Functions,

8.Introduction to Differential and Integral Calculus.

I use the student's own text book as this basis for teaching the above.

Prior to beginning Calculus, I review the student's understanding of geometry, advanced algebra, polynomials, and trigonometry.

We then move to:

1. the derivative and applications involving the derivative

2. the integral and applications involving the integral

3. exponential and logarithmic functions including the natural logarithm

4. trigonometric and hyperbolic functions.

I use the student's own text book and tailor my tutoring to the student's needs.

I am skilled in tutoring math, physics and general chemistry. I have 300 hours of WyzAnt tutoring experience in these subjects plus prior tutoring of math, science and verbal reasoning at a school in Madison. I am also familiar with life science having worked in the medical products industry for fourteen years.

I hold a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Northwestern University that I received with Highest Distinction. I also have an MS in Engineering Mechanics from Stanford University.

I have managed an engineering department and have been involved throughout my career with the design, manufacture and sale of engineered products

Prior to beginning Pre-Calculus, I review the student's understanding of geometry, advanced algebra, polynomials, coordinate geometry and graphical analysis and trigonometry.

We then move to:

1. exponential and logarithmic functions including the natural logarithm.

2. trigonometric and hyperbolic functions.

3. the derivative and applications involving the derivative

4. the integral and applications involving the integral.

I use the student's own text book along with materials that I have used successfully in the past and tailor my tutoring to the student's needs.
