Hello! My name is Mrs. A. and I have been an elementary teacher for many years. Currently, I'm home spending time with our children, but very much miss teaching. In tutoring I get the best of both worlds!
I enjoy helping students find learning strategies that make school fun and engaging. I have a great understanding of the common core standards and the types of curriculum that are currently being used in the Oconomowoc school district. In my years as a fourth grade teacher I was involved in a co-teaching cohort along with our special education manager, therefore I have a great deal of knowledge in dealing with learning disabilities, IEPs, and accommodations.
I taught elementary math for several years and worked alongside my grade level team to create a math resource "tool kit" used to help struggling students.
Reading is my passion and I love help students find their own passion for many different types of literature.
I was elementary teacher for many years.
I'm excited to have the opportunity to get to know you and help you discover the strategies you need to make learning fun! Hello! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I feel I am qualified to tutor in the area of elementary school, as I have been an elementary teacher for several years. Most recently teaching fourth grade, but also have experience in preschool, Kindergarten, and second grade. I have glowing references from my previous employers along with many personal references.
While working as a fourth grade teacher, I took part in a district pilot program along with the special education manager. We co-taught, allowing me to experience the varied needs of many students on her case load. I was able to look in-depth at IEPs and the accommodations that accompanied them. I then implemented many learning strategies into the classroom to help every student succeed. I have a wealth of knowledge on how to tailor activities and learning experiences to be appropriate and engaging for students with special needs. Some of these experiences include: Google read and Write, story mapping, sentence dictation, picture boards, first/ then motivational strategies, and most importantly flexibility! I know that each individual student may need to see or hear a lesson in different ways.
