I am an enthusiastic and experienced Exercise Physiologist and College Level Instructor. I have been an ACSM Certified Clinical Exercise Specialist since 05/1997. I have twelve (12) years of hospital experience primarily as an outpatient case manager in Cardiac Rehabilitation that included the following duties: ECG and BP monitoring, individual exercise prescription including progressive aerobic and circuit weight instruction, risk factor education. I also covered inpatient duties; specifically, ambulation, education, and documentation. Daily reporting patient statuses to physicians and nurses was also an important function.
I taught for two years teaching at the college level. The courses I taught were Anatomy & Physiology, Medical Terminology, and Exercise Physiology. I also provided individual tutoring. I became a State Licensed Substitute Teacher in the state of Wisconsin in December 2012. I currently serve two school districts covering Early Childhood to High School. I prefer Science classes, but I have covered other subjects as needed.
My tutoring methods have included using index cards with pictures for terminology, reviewing terms and content with additional textbooks, models, crossword puzzles, word searches, and using the Internet.
Anatomy & Physiology are my best subjects. I can teach these subjects well, because I can share real-life examples to students from my healthcare experience. For example, I can use a heart model to explain details of heart bypass surgery. I also enjoy Biology, because it is the study of life, and it spans many sub-categories such as genetics, microbiology, and ecology.
In my teaching experience, I read and corrected research papers. I encouraged proper grammar, punctuation, and citing of sources. Hence, I feel qualified to tutor students in English.
I take an interest in students. I try to show an interest in their hobbies and goals. I have taught Sunday School (various grades) for over 12 years. I have also been a primary teacher for VBS (Vacation Bible School)at my church including Kindergarten-1st Grade groups, 2nd-6th grade groups, and mentoring youth leaders. I am caring and compassionate, but I do believe students need to take responsibility to study in an environment that works.
I am married. We have one daughter who is 21 years old. She is a senior in college majoring in English and Education with a Math Minor. We have a Sheltie dog named Tigger who is 10 years old. I played 3 sports in high school-tennis, basketball, and softball. I like to walk my dog and go on nature hikes. I like to read and watch funny movies. I enjoy scrapbooking. I collect children's Disney books. I am an enthusiastic and experienced Exercise Physiologist and College Level Instructor. I have been an ACSM Certified Clinical Exercise Specialist since 05/1997. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am qualified to tutor in this subject, because I love continuing to learn about Anatomy. I taught it for two years at the university level. I used a variety of teaching and tutoring methods including interactive games, models, word searches, and textbook diagrams. Currently, I also substitute teach for Anatomy and Physiology at the high school level.
I have taught Sunday School (various grades, including 3rd-8th)at my church for over 15 years. I have been a Group Leader/Teacher for VBS (Vacation Bible School) for over 15 years also. I enjoy teaching children about Jesus from Bible stories. As a Sunday School Teacher currently, I continue to attend staff meetings in which our Pastor reviews lessons and deeper meanings of the stories from both the Old Testament and the New Testament.
I have substitute taught Biology at the High School level for 2 years, and my undergraduate degree was in Biology. I also taught Anatomy and Physiology at a small university for two years. Biology gave me the building blocks to achieve my Master's degree in Exercise Physiology.
I was the volunteer Editor of a local publication (2008-2010). I published articles in a newsletter for Cardiac & Pulmonary Rehabilitation professionals. I published a Master's Thesis Abstract (1997).
I believe I am qualified to tutor in the subject of Fitness, because I have a Master's Degree in Adult Fitness/Cardiac Rehabilitation. I have maintained my certification as Clinical Exercise Specialist with the organization called American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM)since 1997. I worked in Cardiac Rehab in a hospital setting for over 12 years. I enjoy exercise myself and try to exercise 3-4 times per week by walking 30 minutes.
This subject goes together with Anatomy. I am qualified to tutor students in Physiology, because I enjoy continuing to learn about the function of body structures, diseases, and prevention. I have over 15 years of experience in the medical field, and that gives me confidence in explaining complex physiological processes in a step-by-step manner. I taught Anatomy and Physiology for two years at the university level, and currently, I am a State Licensed Substitute Teacher in Wisconsin.
I am currently editing a Master's thesis for a friend. From 2010-2012, I taught college-level classes that included grading research papers.
I have strong English skills in grammar, punctuation, and sentence structure.
