This year I officially taught in a school for the first time and I found it very rewarding to be in a classroom setting. My roots are in tutoring; which I started doing my freshman year of college. I had several friends who struggled with writing papers and being an English major they came to me for help. I would proofread their papers for them while also teaching them how to write a better paper, rather than just telling them what to fix. Eventually, I started advertising online and working for various tutoring sites and passing out flyers.

I really enjoy tutoring English and Language Arts, because language is the basis of communication. When I teach someone English I am teaching them how to express themselves in a meaningful way, whether it be a research paper or a short story. The same applies to Literature. I like helping people understand symbolism and themes in stories and how literature has influenced culture and how culture influences literature.

I specialize in proofreading papers, literature tutoring throughout the year, and standardized test prep during testing season such as the ACT/SAT specifically the English and literature based sections. I also teach teach basic reading and phonics to elementary and middle school students.

I am an English major with an emphasis on creative writing. I have a solid understanding of grammar, style, and flow. The creative writing aspect of my major has given me skills that go beyond the technical aspects of writing. I have to read a breadth and depth of literature and analyze it as well.

My goal is to challenge students during our sessions and to personalize how I teach each student. I don't believe that there is one size fits all method of tutoring. I want to meet students where they are and help them achieve their goals.

I am generally available most of the day. Contact me and we will find a time that works for the both of us. I guarantee my services will improve your understanding of English and improve whatever skills are needed across the board: grammar, style, proofreading skills, test scores, and analyzing literature.

I took AP English Language and Composition and passed the exam with a 5. The class had a strong emphasis on grammar and composition. I wrote a lot and ended up with a lot off red on my papers, but I was better for it. Now as an English major, I do a lot of writing and self editing; I like to help others make their writing understandable and succinct. Composition is important and applies to everything from text to research papers to emails. I've been helping others edit papers since 2010 all the way from freshman expository papers all the way to PH.D dissertations.

I spent a year as a first grade teacher at a small private school and this past year I was an educational assistant for third grade. I spent a lot of time going over common core standards and working to differentiate learning methods with students. I think I have a good understanding of how to help students reach their fullest potential.

I am an English major with a firm grasp of the English language and all of its quirky nuances. I got a 31 on the English section of the ACT and I have been tutoring on the high school level and above since 2010.
ACT Reading,

ACT Reading

I got a 34 on the reading section of the ACT. The reading section can be difficult, because often there are often multiple correct answers. I am good at working through passages and helping people see why an answer is correct versus just telling them what to do. Language can be confusing, but with enough practice linguistic patterns become familiar and easier to navigate.

I spend a lot of time reading and a lot of writing and I am constantly immersed in language. Not only do I have to read a lot, but I also do a lot of writing as part of my major. The dean of the English department of my school wrote me a letter my junior year commending me on my the excellence of my work, which he said he doesn't often do. I have a diversity of experience in multiple areas of English. I proofread papers, go over literature, teach phonics, and more I am well rounded.

Literature

I took AP Literature and Composition in high school and got a 5 on the test, and I am constantly reading. When I tutor in literature I like discussing the material and seeing what the student thinks of the reading. There are established literary theories, but I want to give students the chance to express themselves. Different life experiences and cultures will result in different interpretations of books. In my major, I am often analyzing readings and supporting my analysis through text based evidence.

Great tutor and very patient.

Zaire and I reviewed tips for the ACT reading and English portions and discussed the writing section as well as the personal statement for the Common Application. Moreover, I did a practice reading section with her and did some English practice as well. Overall it was a wonderful experience as she was very patient and helpful.

Very helpful teacher

She helped me understand the underlying concepts and themes of the book that I didn’t get when I first read the book. She took her time to explain and point out themes, motifs, and other symbolic objects. Thank you for the help!
