About Justin

I am from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. I am a recent double graduate in Spanish Language and Literature, as well as in Latin American, Caribbean, and U.S. Latino Studies. For the last two years I have been practicing my own language skills. From early 2015 to the beginning of 2016 I was in Lima, Peru and various cities in Colombia teaching English, perfecting my Spanish, meeting wonderful people and exploring all that was possible.

Now I am in Quebec, Canada, working on improving my fluency in French. While in the capital Lima, I had my first official opportunity to be an English instructor and found it to be an incredibly rewarding experience. I worked with people of professional backgrounds, from university professors to CEO's of international companies, however within a wide range of levels, from the most basic to the most advanced. Thus I was given a unique experience, to hear their stories, and relate much of my own language learning background with my new students to create a equal balance between teacher and learner. At the end, much progress was made, as well as many friendships.

I have only taught to students who's native language was not that of English. I have taught at the very basic levels through intermediate up until the most advanced levels, including classes solely based on conversational skills. At every step of the way the vocabulary skills were further developed and continually reinforced.

Writing skills as well as Proofreading abilities go hand in hand as Proofreading is used as a reference to go over past mistakes in previous Writing lessons. I am a language learner and a language lover, just as I am sure you all are too! I am very eager to help with any and all of your English language concerns and questions! Please do not hesitate to contact me with inquiries! Thanks and have a great day.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

English

I am from the United States and English is my first language. I have my Bachelor's degree and a long list of professional employment that has perfected my English for all levels and occasions. As well, I have experience as an English instructor in which I was able to gain the experience to better explain the nuances of the language in a detailed and clear manner.

ESL/ESOL

All of previous teaching experience was under the bases of ESL learning. My previous students were from South America and had ranging levels of English knowledge. I feel I am qualified as well because I am a language student too, of Spanish and French. Therefore, I feel I can relate more with the struggles and learning strategies of the student on their journey to improving their English.

Literature

I feel that I am qualified to tutor in the realm of Literature because it is my passion and as well what was my primary focus in my days at the university. Inside and outside a school atmosphere I am constantly investigating new and old authors, literary movements, poets, and even writing my own stories and poetry. I feel that my outlook on literature, as something exciting, as a constant adventure, could help influence my students outlook and performance in their own Literature classes.

Vocabulary

From my personal and academic experience with languages, I fully appreciate the importance and excitement that goes into learning new vocabulary. Over the years I have used many different methods to improve and expand the world of my own vocabulary in English, French, and Spanish. Vocabulary is necessary for a successful evolution through any language, and successful study methods are crucial in the battle to fully express oneself. I feel I can easily explain helpful tips that I use in order to aide the students in their vocabulary challenges.

Writing

Through my experience as a language instructor and student I understand that writing at times can seem like the most difficult. However, like any process, it must be taken by an easy to follow, step by step approach. I have had much experience with professional and creative writing in my past and can help my students formulate correct sentence structure, avoid common errors, and most importantly help my students to express themselves correctly and appropriately.
