About Brooke

Teaching has been, and will continue to be, a passion of mine. My tutoring experience stems back to when I first began tutoring as a high schooler. At this time, I participated in a club in which I tutored younger students during my lunch hour and also tutored a middle schooler in algebra outside of school. In college, I entered as an Education major and thus took a number of classes on teaching and education. These classes included both lecture and hands-on experiences observing and helping out in classrooms. After graduating, I went on to pursue a TEFL certification in order to teach English abroad in Taiwan for a year. I am now currently a graduate student studying Speech-Language Pathology at Marquette University, a field which is heavily based upon the principles of teaching.

Due to my background, I specialize in tutoring English (all aspects of language, grammar, reading, writing, etc.), Biology and other related areas of science (Natural Science, Chemistry, Physics, Environmental Science, Botany), Math (elementary, pre-algebra, algebra, trigonometry), and tutoring to those with Special Needs. My current rate is $45 per session, with availability on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. Locations of sessions are flexible and can be arranged for based upon the student's needs.

Math has always been something that I have enjoyed and excelled at. It is something that comes rather naturally to me and that I would enjoy tutoring others in. I feel confident to tutor elementary math, pre-algebra, algebra, and trigonometry.

I have a Bachelor's degree in Biology and, thus, feel qualified and confident in teaching biology, natural science, chemistry, physics, and other related science areas.

I am TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) certified and taught English for a year in Taiwan. I taught English at varying levels of proficiency, in both group and private lessons, to ages 4 to adult. Additionally, in my final year of my undergraduate degree, I took a class on teaching ESL through Butler University's Education Department. In this class, I learned strategies to teach English as a second language within the school setting and tutored ESL high school students at a school in Indianapolis.

I have an extensive amount of experience working with children and adults with special needs. I have worked as an Inclusion Aide for children with a variety of disorders and was an ABA therapist for children with autism. I volunteered at a a sleep-away summer camp for children with tracheostomies. I am currently a nanny for a child with Angelmann's syndrome and was a nanny for a child with autism in the past. My schooling has also provided me with one-on-one experience with children with a variety of special needs and disorders, as well.

I am a positive, encouraging, patient, and passionate teacher. I like to make my teaching methods as engaging and fun as possible and to tailor my instruction to best meet the needs of my students. I would love to help you learn, achieve, and surpass your goals!! Please contact me, if interested. I look forward to hearing from you! :)

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
