I have been a teacher for three years and have had experience tutoring students in a one-on-one setting. I enjoy teaching reading to students, and am a reading teacher for this reason. I am looking to broaden my experience by tutoring one-on-one to help strengthen my skills, and to help students improve their knowledge and skills in reading, writing, spelling, math etc. I am very passionate about my job and about my students and will put forth the effort and hard work required to help you succeed! My favorite part of tutoring is getting to see the students faces light up when they finally understand something that they did not understand before. When what they struggled with finally clicks makes my day and makes me feel like what I am doing is really valuable not only to me, but to my students as well.
In my free time I enjoy reading, writing, coloring mandalas, and participating in multiple exercise classes throughout the week. My favorite exercise class is Zumba. I love the music, the rhythm, and the community involved in participating in Zumba.
I am able to relate to students who are struggling in Elementary Math as it was an area that was a struggle for me when I was in grade school. I try to find the best possible way to help students who do not understand math to find ways that work for them to solve the problems, and to understand math so they can be successful.
I have been a reading teacher for three years now and have worked with a variety of different reading programs, and feel that as reading is one of my passions; I am able to find a strength the student has with reading and from there encourage them and help them to grow into stronger readers and to be able to comprehend the activities. I also am able to come up with fun ideas and ways to comprehend what the student is reading and help to draw out what the student just read so that it makes sense to them.
I am an Elementary Education teacher, and have used Words Their Way which is a spelling program working on helping students learn different patterns in spelling so that they can become successful spellers and in turn successful readers and writers. I believe strongly in the Words Their Way program as I have seen the success in my own students and believe that I can stand behind this program to be used in other tutoring opportunities.
I have fun Phonics programs that teaches the sounds of the letters through stories and pictures. This program also practices making words with the letters. Through the use of this program I feel I am able to bring a more dynamic approach to phonics and to reading.
I am passionate about teaching and helping students learn to read, write, spell, and more. If you have questions please feel free to contact me through WyzAnt, and I will see if we can work out a schedule to help you or your child get on track in reading, writing, spelling, math or phonics. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am a teacher by training, and have been teaching for the past three years. In the past three years at the school I work at I have had the opportunity to be a third grade teacher, sub as a fourth grade teacher, a gym teacher, a math teacher, and a first grade teacher. Through these experiences I have gained a broader knowledge of how to teach and of what I want my teaching to look like. Working with students brings me the most joy and I feel that I am qualified because of the different opportunities I have had to teach in a multitude of subjects.
I have been taught how to teach using different phonics models. Two models that I have seen work successfully are Words Their Way, and Lively Letters. Both programs work at the level the students are at to help them be most successful. Words Their Way focuses on the patterns in words and how to remember those patterns. Lively Letters focuses on teaching the students the sounds that each letter makes through pictures being embedded into each letter and with each picture comes a story. I have used both of these programs and seen them both successfully help students learn to read and to begin to be able to write.
