About Kelsey

I have just completed my first year of teaching in the Milwaukee Public Schools system. I teach Middle School Special Education, which included some elementary aged classrooms as well. I graduated college in June of 2014 with a degree in Special Education - Learning Disabilities/Cognitive Disabilities.
I enjoy working with students that challenge me and that allow me to challenge them to their ability level. I believe in making students feel successful and enjoying their academic experiences. I have been looking for a chance to tutor during the summer to keep my brain fresh, as well as the brains in the children around the Milwaukee area! The key to a student's academic success is practice, practice, practice. Doing academic work during the summer can keep their brains moving for the upcoming school year. I hope to encourage all of my students to enjoy the learning process, rather than thinking of it as something they just have to do!

As a special education teacher, I am teaching students the importance of grammar and the proper vocabulary usage, both inside and outside of the classroom. Grammar and vocabulary are key components of a good piece of a writing and can be a major factor in their academic success in multiple subject areas.

I have the most experience with children around this age range. Their creative brains and spunky personalities make it easy to teach them subjects, like math, while having fun! Many academic concepts, particularly in the area of math, are able to be taught in a variety of ways. Students at this age are learning their best method of acquiring and applying knowledge. These various strategies can allow the children to explore the different types of learning styles available to them.

I have spent an entire year teaching students with special needs in the area of both reading and mathematics. I have a patient heart and have found through my first year of teaching, that this is the area that I find the most success in. In the regular education classroom, students find their strengths. For some students, however, they struggle to find strengths when they constantly feel that they are struggling to keep up with their friends in class. Nothing brings me more joy in this world than seeing a student feel proud of their accomplishments both academically and not. With tutoring and one-on-one work, I am able to help students find that "AHA!" moment. I look forward to seeing those light bulbs come on. They may not come on everyday, but when they do, they are worth it!

I would love to share my love for education with the children around the Milwaukee area! Please contact me if you believe that I can assist you or your child in improving confidence, academic achievement, and overall self-esteem! I look forward to meeting you!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary (K-6th)

My job as a Special Education teacher in the Milwaukee Public School system has allowed me the opportunity to work with a variety of ages in small group and one-on-one academic settings. I enjoy working with students between the ages of 6 and 15.

Special Needs

I teach Special Education in the Milwaukee Public School District. I just completed my first year, after graduating from UW-Eau Claire. I work in both small group settings and one-on-one with students with learning disabilities, ADHD, and Autism.
