About Ricky

I am a college graduate of The Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) in Mechanical Engineering Technology and an Associates degree from Milwaukee Area Technical College (MATC) in Mechanical Design. While earning these degrees I can tell you how valuable tutoring is. Usually taking notes in class isn't enough and extra help is needed. I found that getting help from peers makes all the difference. This is because your peers are able to help you understand a topic since they are usually able to restate the problems in a way that makes it understandable without using the technical terms and wording that can make topics confusing.

I enjoy helping others learn and achieve their goals. I find satisfaction in seeing someone succeed. I know how frustrating it can be to struggle while learning new concepts in math and science. I have found that studying may not be enough to really get what is being taught. that is when help is needed. I feel that just knowing how to solve problems isn't enough but a real understanding of why problem is what it is makes a person able to conceptualize it and that makes all the difference in learning.

Being a Mechanical Engineer has given me a great appreciation for math. It is our language to solve many engineering problems and is a tool to express complex ideas. My schooling has required me to learn advanced Algebra, Trigonometry, Calculus, and Differential Equations. I enjoy math and continue to learn more advanced math since I have a good understanding of the basics. This understanding allows me to take on more advanced and complex math topics.

Being a Mechanical Engineer has given me a great appreciation for many computer programs. It is a tool to help me solve engineering problems faster and is a tool to express complex ideas graphically. Knowing how to use Microsoft Excel is invaluable to most engineers and I have come to rely on it in my career and have become very knowledgeable of its uses. In college I used it daily for solving statistical problems to mechanical and physics problems.

I have tutored peers in college to tutoring my nephew who is now finishing his freshman year in high school. My nephew struggled in math in junior high until I sat with him and help him understand how and why math works. He is doing great now and doesn't struggle anymore. I feel that once a person understands the basics of math, harder concepts are usually easier to grasp. If a person works at it and spends time on math they can learn and achieve their goals. Math is not hard itself it is how you learn it.

For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
