I have taught for 20+ years on all grade levels: elementary, middle school and college. I have a strong background in English and writing. This past year I saw huge leaps in my students' testing scores. I would like to think I had a hand in that improvement. I am personable and patient. I am a parent and am experienced with handling reluctant or frustrated learners.
I have tutored in numerous subjects: writing and composition, literature, grammar, spelling, history, math and communications course in college-specifically public speaking. I also have been privately employed as a speech writer/giver, publicist and newspaper freelance writer. I have taught in Milwaukee, Georgia and in international classrooms in London and Paris.

Our school has embraced common core instruction and because of this, all of my lesson plans are written and aligned to common core standards in ELA. I personally believe it s a valuable tool so that instruction from grade to grade is aligned and so that the educator can be assured that important competencies at each grade level are being addressed/met. We currently do MAP testing. All of my students are either at grade level, most are well beyond grade level and the national standard. This has been a change since I started working at the school 4 years ago. I am proud of the growth there has been in reading and writing. A large percentage of my students when they graduate from 8th grade go on to honors English. I want to say it is because of my instruction, but also because we are being held to a specific set of standards that need to be met at all grade levels.
I am a licensed teacher in the state of Wisconsin--grades 1-8.
As a licensed teacher, I have taught cursive writing and printing in grades 1-4.
I have taught American History, current events and government in middle school.
I have taught public speaking for many years at high school and college levels. I taught public speaking for 2 years at Marquette University, 5+ years at Alverno College, and 3 years at Savannah College of Art and Design
I deal with organization and study sills every day in my classroom. I have helped children to be more successful in meeting deadlines within the classroom and this in turn has seen a significant improvement in grades. I have gone in and one-on one shown students how to organize folders, desks and lockers. I currently use a homework/assignment tracker that has been very useful. I correspond with the home everyday, and write detailed explanations of what is needed day to day and in terms of long term projected assignments. The key to getting kids invested in study skills is by showing them how much easier it is when they know where everything is and what is required of them. The goal is to eventually teach the students themselves how to organize by first modeling for them. Working toward personal independence is the key to success in terms of study skills.
I have a degree in communications, and have taken several theatre arts classes. I have taught adult enrichment classes in acting, directed plays for a variety of age levels.
