About Nick

I am a Milwaukee area teacher and musician that loves music in all of its diverse forms. I got into music to share what I have discovered and open up others to what music can do for them. I love working with students and watching as they develop into mature musicians.

My first degree is in music education from Ohio University in Athens, OH. I then moved up to Milwaukee to pursue a Master's of Music Performance at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Now that I've graduated I get to do what I love by teaching my growing studio of 15+ students and playing gigs in the area.

I teach trombone, euphonium/baritone, tuba, guitar, and ukulele on a regular basis. I also offer lessons in music fundamentals, theory, harmonization, history, and techniques for making your own music. My lessons are built around finding your own voice in music and discovering how music fits into your own life. Because of this, I try to focus on the music that the students wants to learn and how the fundamentals of each instrument apply to that.

My schedule can be flexible, but I require a 24-hour notice for cancellations. That being said, if we need to cancel a lesson it is my priority to make it up somehow.

I prefer to teach out of my studio in the Whitefish Bay Area of Milwaukee so that I have access to all of my teaching materials, however I am willing to travel if need be.

If you have any questions of my policies or simply want to get to know me better, please contact me! I look forward to meeting you!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Composition (Music)

I hold a degree in Music Education and a Master's in Performance. While obtaining my degrees I spent a good deal of time composing and arranging. At this point I have had works played at the Ohio Music Educators Association conference as well as concerts by Ohio University and UW-Milwaukee ensembles.

Ear Training

I hold a degree in Music Education and a Master's in Performance. With music education I had to take two years of ear training where I did well enough to pass out of the classes in graduate school. I use these techniques daily in my work as a freelance musician.

Guitar

I have a degree in Music Education and a Master's in Performance. Although my primary instrument was trombone, I have been playing guitar for over 10 years and have been hired professionally for the instrument through bands and musicals. Along with its cousin the ukulele, I teach both instruments through my own private studio.

Music History

I have a degree in Music Education and a Master's in Trombone Performance. Both of these degrees required extensive coursework in music history which I received straight A's in. Outside of the required coursework I took extra classes in both Jazz history and Rock and Roll history.

Songwriting

I hold a degree in Music Education and a Master's in Performance. While obtaining my degrees I spent a good deal of time composing and arranging. At this point I have had works played at the Ohio Music Educators Association conference as well as concerts by Ohio University and UW-Milwaukee ensembles. I was also involved in many independent bands ranging from funk to folk where I was part of the writing process for many of our tunes

Trombone

I have a degree in Music Education where my primary instrument was trombone. I also have a Master's in Trombone Performance. I teach all low brass instruments at a local music store and also have experience teaching 5-12th grade in a group setting at clinicians and band camps around Ohio and Wisconsin.
