I very much enjoy helping people learn who are serious and have presented one to sixteen hour workshops on accounting and business topics across the country. It can be very boring, so I do my best to bring appropriate amounts of humor and practical application into the learning process. My experiences have been primarily face-to-face; however, I have presented via several different types of distance learning - mixing video, telecommunications and web interfaces.
I have over twenty years experience at hands-on and management supervision over large business operations in organizations with as many as 4,000 employees and budgets of over $300 million. Nicholas had been great in helping my son, who is a college student, to understand better complex accounting concepts and improve his grades. He is patient and knows how to explain difficult problems. Overall, we have a positive experience and will continue to use him in a future.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have an MBA and 20+ years of experience managing business operations of institutions as large as $300 million in annual budget. My responsibilities have included supervision of purchasing, accounting, finance, technology, transportation, facilities, capital projects and budget development.
My study skills were developed during my bachelor’s degree and master’s degree programs. I developed the study skills of many accounting and financial analysts as well as other professionals throughout my career to do state of the art work in program evaluation, financial planning and business analysis.
I would use the following methods to improve study skills:
1. student/tutor joint goal development
2. development of action plans
3. continuous feedback and communication
4. positive reinforcement when appropriate
Some Specific Study Skills
1. Read the material before class and write questions that you have.
2. Review feedback (corrected homework, quizzes and exams) as soon as possible.
3. Use other sources (e.g., Wikipedia) to verify and learn.
4. Be prepared. Check your work.
5. Prepare note cards to study topics that you have not mastered.
