About Mir

I have in-class and one-on-one teaching experience on college-level Math, Physics and Electrical Engineering courses. While being a graduate student, I taught Math and Physics as a teaching assistant for five years. I also tutored for pre-calculus and pre-algebra during college. I consistently received excellent evaluations from the students and I won an honored instructor award for my performance.

I believe every student's learning technique is different and it is the teacher's responsibility to design his/her lesson uniquely to accommodate the student's need. While tackling a difficult concept, I always try to come up with a lot of analogies from everyday experience. I also try to break down difficult math problems in chunks of more fundamental ones and work them out individually. These techniques always helped me having success with my students; particularly those who were initially struggling, but ended up doing very well.

I would be happy to meet anywhere in the UW campus or in the Madison suburbs. I require an initial communication to discuss course topics, textbooks etc. before the first day of lesson. As a general rule, I do not consider a session complete until my student feels he/she is more confident with the topics we covered and I do not bill for the session until I achieve this goal.

The best part of teaching is the satisfaction that one gets when his/her student achieves success. I hope to hear from you and get a chance to be a part of your success story.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Calculus

Calculus has been my strongest suit since the beginning of my tutoring career. I was a teaching assistant in advanced college level calculus course (differential equation and linear algebra) and I received excellent feedback from my students. I have some calculus tricks and tips up my sleeve that come handy for test takers.

Differential Equations

Being an electrical engineering major, I had an extensive exposure to differential equations both in the coursework and in my research. I was also a teaching assistant for the course 'Differential Equations and Linear Algebra' in the University of Wisconsin-Madison and received excellent review from my students. I completed a graduate-level course that taught advanced techniques to solve differential equations. I am proficient in solving ordinary differential equations both analytically and numerically.

Electrical Engineering

I am an Electrical Engineering major with teaching experience as a graduate TA in various electrical engineering courses (solid state electronics, electronic circuits II). I am proficient with circuit simulation tools like CircuitLab and hardware description language like Verilog. I also have tutoring experience for an electrical circuit I course (DC and AC circuit theory).

MATLAB

I have been using MATLAB for both coursework and research since Sophomore year in college (2004). Apart from the default computational capabilities of MATLAB, I am also familiar with MATLAB's symbolic toolbox and control system toolbox. I won a competition by designing an algorithm for helping students choose the classes that suit their schedule best and my algorithm was developed using MATLAB. I was a teaching assistant of the course Introduction to Solid State Electronics -- where MATLAB was heavily used for device simulation and I was responsible for teaching MATLAB during discussion sections.
