I graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute with a B.S. in Physics in 2013. Since, I have been a graduate student working towards a Ph.D. in Physics at the University of Arizona specializing in Astronomy and Astrophysics. During my time in graduate school I have taught (both as a Teaching Assistant and Primary Instructor) Physics 1 (Mechanics), Physics 2 (Electricity & Magnetism), and Computational Physics each at the Algebra and Calculus level. My teaching style is learner-centric and I have employed active learning techniques to empower my students to learn.

I have spent two years tutoring college physics to University of Arizona students. I develop tutoring sessions based on the goals of the each student. Most tutoring lessons involve the student solving problems (whether they be homework, test prep, or example problems) while I provide oversight. If I see the student take a wrong turn or if the student is stuck, I will then ask directed questions to push the student in direction they need to succeed.

I am a Ph.D. student in Physics specializing in Astronomy and Astrophysics. During my time as a graduate student, I have acted as both a teaching assistant and the primary instructor for most physics classes. I also have experience developing learner-centered and active learning lesson plans for these courses.

Basics of recursion

We went over the basics of recursion. Matthew started the lesson with drawing the problem in the white board and showing the basic data flow for the function. After the diagram, he helped walk through doing project in the code editor. Both methods really helped to drive home the concept of recursion.

Great tutor!

Matthew K. was very helpful considering that I only have a basic knowledge of Python code. He is very experienced with computer science but is very capable of explaining it at a basic level. Overall, he is a great tutor and I would recommend him!
