I began tutoring in highschool, assisting fellow highschool students with math courses ranging from Algebra to Calculus. In college I was a teaching assistant, with duties that included both individual and group tutoring, as well as grading homework assignments and working with professors to meet individual student needs. Throughout college I was employed to tutor students in subjects ranging from introductory to advanced physics (including quantum mechanics) and introductory mathematics, including college algebra, business statistics and calculus. After college I was employed by New Mexico State University for a semester, instructing two physics laboratory courses.
For the last few years I have been working on completing a Master's degree in Statistics, with a concentration in Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence algorithm design, at Northern Illinois University. During this time I have worked as a graduate teaching assistant, instructing a range of introductory collegiate statistics courses. In addition, I was employed to work in the Statistical Assistance Center as a personal and small group tutor, guiding many students to improved grades through a better, more thorough understanding of the subject matter. I am driven by the desire to help people understand subjects and concepts that may be quite difficult for them; it is deeply satisfying to watch a student spend time on a difficult idea and then have that "Ah-hah!" moment of true clarity and understanding.

I earned a perfect score on the math section of the ACT and on the math/logical reasoning section of the GRE. B.S. in Physics with a minor in Mathematics, M.S. (1 semester remaining) in Statistics.

Thorough and Attentive

Works with end in mind—beginning our session with the question “Where do you want to end?” Attended to my prioritized need to make stronger connections. Thanks Carl!

Carl is a great tutor, extremely helpful and patient

Carl helped me on a statistics project using excel. Carl was very patient with me and I am very pleased with Carl's way of explaining things to me - I really need things "dumbed" down so that I can grasp the concepts, and Carl tried to do that as much as he could with the material. I will definitely be working with Carl again!
