I'm Purnima T., and I hold a Master of Philosophy in Linguistics and am currently a Ph.D. candidate writing my dissertation in the area of Linguistics. I love learning and teaching languages. I try to bring my knowledge of having learnt a a language to my tutoring approach. Learning languages is a serious business, but learned within a given context, and communicatively, languages are easy to learn and a whole lot of fun. My lessons are interactive and learner-centered, taking into consideration specific needs and learning styles of my students. I strive to make learning a serious at the same time enjoyable activity.

I have nine months experience tutoring students enrolled in the Academic Intensive English program in the U.S., one-on-one. The program is designed to help prepare non-native English speakers for college or graduate school in the United States. I used my expertise to help ESL students with writing, reading, grammar, and conversation. I also have experience tutoring German, Hindi, and Marathi to high school students studying these subjects as part of their curriculum back in Pune, India.

I hold a University of Cambridge TESOL Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults (CELTA), PASS A, New York, NY

I have completed The teacher training program of the Goethe-Institut “Grünes Diplom” for teaching German as a foreign language to adult learners, Pune, India.

I am a native speaker of Hindi and Marathi, well-versed with the Devanagari script, fluent in reading, writing and speaking.
