Virginia Tech (Political Science)
University of Wisconsin-Madison (Master's)
I'm a former UW graduate student with 5 semesters of teaching experience in political science. I have very high teaching evaluations for all of my courses. I have a really strong background in American politics, including voting behavior, Congress, American history, partisanship, polarization, and the presidency. I'm comfortable with topics outside of political science including the social sciences, sociology, economics, International relations, political theory, and history.
I have a lot of experience teaching basic statistical methods to undergraduate political science students, but my biggest proficiency is with statistical computation with a strong background in R and STATA. I have taken 8 graduate statistic courses at UW-Madison including multivariate regression modeling, hierarchical modeling, survey design, and quantitative research design.
I have two political science degrees and a degree in environmental policy, so I'm very comfortable with American politics in the post war era, particularly major legislative accomplishments and trends in voting behavior. I have taught intro to American politics which covers American history and the major political developments that shape the United States.
I have an open schedule so please feel free to contact me any time. I'd be happy to help you prepare for tests, learn concepts, help with papers, and help you become a more successful student. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
For the last five semesters I have been a Teaching Assistant and the University of Wisconsin-Madison for four different undergraduate courses. I have a bachelors and a masters in political science and I have received very high ratings for my teaching. I have two publications one a book chapter on civic voluntarism, and a co-authored journal article on survey experiments and the effects of political media. In my discussion sessions I work very hard to relate to my students and make sure to connect their assigned readings to current events.
