As a veteran teacher I have never believed in a “one size fits all” approach to teaching. Science is full of concepts that can take some time and effort on both the student and the teacher to understand and master. My instructional strategies cover the full range of learners.
I have taught courses in biology, environmental and physical sciences. In the past I have tutored chemistry, physics, algebra and geometry as well. As a teacher I will always help you understand concepts and to how to find answers. In person an virtual tutoring sessions welcome.
As a lifelong learner I ravenously consume reliable media on the progress of humanities understanding of the cosmos. Its a happy day for me when my Scientific American or Sky and Telescope arrive. As I finished my undergraduate degree I chose education over symbiotic relationships between fungi and plant communities. Gravitating towards more general science courses allowed me to explore and share my passion for the wide array of disciplines that make up science. Still I do look at a forest floor or meadow a little differently than most people do.
As an educator I have developed a skill set of working with all students. I have expertise and experience working with people on the autism spectrum and a wide variety of other learning challenges. Your strengths and challenges as a learner are a big part of what makes you the individual you are. As a tutor I will help you harness your strengths and overcome your challenges through a pathway you understand and can use.
While I will not promise success, that will come from your time and effort, I will promise your time with me will be productive and worth your while. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
