About Mark

I am a seasoned professional of 20 years in both public and private accounting. Having held positions as a staff accountant through manager in CPA firms as well as being a controller and chief financial officer I am uniquely qualified to provide tutoring on topics ranging from accounting, tax, finance, human resources and risk management.

I enjoy helping others achieve their academic goals by offering mentoring and over the years have helped many of my direct reports advance their careers through tutoring. Additionally, my background is such that I'm naturally adept at communicating complex issues in an easily understandable fashion. I've successfully presented Company financial information to both internal and external audiences regarding budgeting, financing requests and overall performance.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Accounting

With over 15 years of experience in the accounting field I can offer students real world examples of how they apply to the academic material being studied.

My accounting career started with a position as a general staff accountant in a small CPA firm and over the years I've held positions ranging from a senior manager, self-employed CPA, controller and chief financial officer.

During those years, I was required not show proficiency in most areas of accounting, auditing and finance.

Give my current position as an accounting manager for a small business I have a flexible schedule and am able to schedule meetings with little notice.

Business

As a CPA with over 15 years serving clients as well as owning my own businesses I've had to become proficient in how all areas of business operations by necessity.

My consulting I've provided and areas I've been exposed to include but are not limited to everything from how a company is organized, accounting systems are setup, human resources operates to general day to day operations in various industries.

The best part about my skills they are "real world" not just the view of a general consultant who see's only bits and pieces of operations but rather I've had to get into the nuts and bolts of a business as I owned them.

QuickBooks

I am qualified to tutor subjects on Quickbooks for the following reasons: I have worked in Quickbooks for no less than 5 Companies. I have personally owned and supervised staff in the correct use of the program. I have provided consulting to clients for over 10 years in the proper use of Quickbooks as well as troubleshot their systems for accounting errors in the program. 3. I have taken self-study tutorials on the program to keep my skills current in with the operations of Quickbooks.

Tax Preparation

In public accounting and as a business owner I've had to be very skilled in the area of taxation.

I've been required to not only prepare tax returns for clients ranging from individuals to corporations in public accounting but also was responsible for the tax planning and compliance of my own companies.

Successfully tax planning requires an individual to be able to navigate the black, white and grey areas of the tax code to ensure you minimize tax liability and ensure compliance. I've done that well over the life of my career.
