About Peter

As an experienced and patient tutor of physics and of math subjects through calculus and college first year linear algebra and differential equations, my great delight is in seeing the "light bulb" of comprehension in my students' faces. These subjects are not as difficult as they often seem to my students before they meet with me. My concrete illustrations and introductory exercises have been highly successful in getting students on track for academic success and in recognizing their own untapped potential.

Note: much of my earlier tutoring was through a different company and much was as an independent tutor. These sessions don't appear in my WyzAnt profile. An example of a student's appreciation was told to me by his parent: "I learned more in one hour with him than I have all year in class at school!"

I have a PhD in physics from an Ivy League University (U of Penn here in Philadelphia) and years of experience as a systems engineer working on ballistic missile defense and other projects for Lockheed Martin. I have studied education as an undergraduate and have taught in a variety of settings (including both middle-school students and as an adjunct college professor).

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT Math

I have been trained in ACT preparation tutoring skills including test-taking strategies to maximize scores.

ACT Science

I can help you with both subject matter understanding and test-taking strategy tips. My science background is very solid and my experience in tutoring includes strategies for maximizing scores on the SAT and ACT tests.

Algebra 1

I have had great success in helping students to really understand the concepts of algebra 1. I use a number of different real-world examples and focus on understanding rather than the computational side. I also have tips for making the computations easier.

Algebra 2

On my way to my PhD in physics I had to learn the same math that is troubling you now. I am confident that I can make it clear to you.

I have had excellent success in helping students understand Geometry.

Physical Science

PhD in Physics from University of Pennsylvania.

I hold a PhD in physics from University of Pennsylvania.

SAT Math

I have two years' experience with A+ Test Prep in SAT math tutoring. Additionally, I scored 780 on the math SAT. Also, I got an 800 on my GRE general.
