Mount Holyoke College
Hello! My name is Cassidy, and I am a first year medical student at the University of Wisconsin and a 2013 graduate of Mount Holyoke College in Western Massachusetts. In high school, I scored in the 99+ percentile on the SAT and ACT. In college, I maintained a 3.75 average, earning a 4.0 multiple semesters.
I graduated cum laude with a Bachelors in Biology and honors in Reproductive Rights and Criminal Justice. I also spent my spring 2012 semester as a Harvard University student.
I have many years of tutoring and teaching experience - mainly in grades 6-8, but ranging from grade 2-12. In the summer of 2012, I taught 7th grade biology with Breakthrough Collaborative, an organization that puts low-income middle and high school students on the path to college. I have also worked as an Introductory Biology teaching assistant at my college and tutored in the biology department. In high school, I created a student-run science and math tutoring network for students who were seeking outside help.
While my primary expertise is in biology, I have experience in K-12 math, K-12 reading/writing, standardized test prep, and study skills development. I have helped dozens of students excel in their classes and succeed on standardized tests, including the SAT, ACT, and SSAT. I work very well one-on-one, but also have experience in small group work.
I also teach swimming lessons and am Lifeguard (including CPR/AED) certified. Hello! I didn't think it was possible for my daughter to say something positive about ACT prep but after meeting with Cassidy, she was very satisfied. My daughter seems to have a good handle on knowledge, so her needs are more directed to test taking advice. We are so excited to have found Cassidy to help her prepare for the test. Thanks!!
We are so happy to have found Cassidy! She has been working with my eighth grade son, helping him catch up on some concepts in an above grade math class as well as developing better study habits and skills. She is prompt and engaging. She is upbeat, has great energy and is a pleasure to have in our home. My son says that Cassidy is very relatable in her teaching style and that he just "gets it" more easily as a result. Thank you, Cassidy!
Cassidy has been a wonderful tutor for our daughter. She has been thorough and patient and also easily accessible. Her response time was great. In a short period of time we have seen an improvement in our daughter's grades.
Cassidy has been excellent so far. We used WyzAnt previously and were really happy with the tutor we had found so we had high expectations. Cassidy gave our daughter strategies to try on her quizzes and tests. I even e-mailed her scans of previous quizzes/tests before the session so she had ideas ready instead of spending the session time looking at the tests. Our daughter had a test today and said she felt much more confident. We will see when she gets the results. Cassidy also is able to relate on our daughter's level, which is a huge plus.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have experience in elementary school skills, including early reading (sounding out letters, word groups, etc.), writing (forming letters, cursive, spelling), math (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division), basic science, and organizational skills.
I have worked on study skills as a tutor for 5 years. I have been trained through the Breakthrough Collaborative and various other institutions.
I work very hard to make an individualized study plan for each of my students.
