A Life-Long Educator
I love people and I love to teach! I believe learning should be fun and meaningful, and because of my beliefs I have been teaching for over 20 years. I taught Jr. High science for 15 years and helped students discover that learning about the world around us is exciting when done with a hands-on/minds-on approach. Every person has his own learning style and it is up to a teacher to help him discover how he best learns.
As a supervisor of elementary student teachers for 6 years, I taught teaching methods and learning theory to my clinical students who taught all of the subjects to their classes in the public schools. Teaching my students how to make teaching fun and relevant to ages 4 to 13 has reinforced my beliefs throughout the years.
Now I coordinate a computer lab in Madison for adults who want to learn the English language and computer basics. I have helped a lot of adults learn to feel comfortable on the computer. It has opened their eyes to a world of possibilities.
Nothing makes me happier than to help a person attain his goals. I am looking forward to helping you! A Life-Long Educator

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have certification to teach grades k-8 in Illinois and Wisconsin. I taught Jr. High science for 15 years in Schaumburg District 54 in Illinois, and I was a supervisor for elementary student teachers for 6 years at Northern Illinois University. I have a B.S. degree in elementary education from Eastern Illinois University, and a Masters in education from Northern Illinois University.
I have used Microsoft Word as a teacher for over 20 years. I took a computer course 10 years ago to become more proficient and have been using it in my office job for 3 years.
I have tutored adults to create documents using Word. I am a good teacher and love to help people learn new skills.
I worked with student teachers who taught phonics to their elementary students. I researched current practices, and now am helping ESL adults with their phonics to learn English. We are using a computer program called LEXIA which is a very valuable way to learn phonics skills.
I worked with student teachers who were teaching their students study skills. I have my masters in education, and have helped a lot of my own junior high students study over my 15 years of teaching science.
