About Abby

I'm a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Parkside with a double major in history and Spanish. I started tutoring classmates and elementary and middle school students in a variety of subjects while still in high school. During college, I worked as a tutor in Spanish, history, prealgebra, and the beginning levels of graphic art/design for my university's tutoring center. Now my speciality is Spanish language and writing.

I have taught and tutored all ages from elementary school to college students who were enrolled in public, private, or homeschool programs. Most of the students that I have worked with were focused on getting through a particular class, so I am skilled at taking whatever materials that you are currently using or are familiar with and tailoring the materials and my explanations to your learning style and goals. Although the bulk of my experience has been working as a tutor with current students, I have also taught as a private instructor. In these sessions I am able to custom-fit the class to the experience and goals of each student. I typically use both text and multimedia materials as well as a variety of internet resources so that the learning continues past our tutoring sessions.

I know that I can help you achieve the language competence that you are hoping for or finish that paper that you've been dreading all semester.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Adobe InDesign

I have in-depth experience with all of the wonderful capabilities and the frustrating shortcomings of Adobe InDesign. I have tutored students in the use of this program for the past year in one-on-one and group sessions. Additionally, I have used this program at work for many years and I have experience with using InDesign publications online and in print.

Dreamweaver

I am very good with the basics of Dreamweaver. I have some experience with the more advanced features of the program and my best qualification is that I can help you use the Adobe Design Suite as a whole in order to create the website that you want.

Microsoft Word

From formatting and layout to integrating graphs and images as well as simplifying mailings or creating reference lists Microsoft Word has many tools and features that can give your document the look you need. I learned how to use these tools through trial and error, from classes, and from on the job training both in offices and a print shop.

Spanish

I began studying Spanish as a college freshman and loved it so much that it gradually grew into a second major. I have truly enjoyed learning not just the language but also the history and culture of Spanish-speaking countries around the world.

I have taught and tutored all ages from elementary school to college students who were enrolled in public, private or home school programs. Most of the students that I have worked with were focused on getting through a particular class so I specialize in taking whatever materials that you are currently using or are familiar with and tailoring the materials and my explanations to your learning style and goals. I focus on conversational ability and pronunciation or grammar and vocabulary, depending on your goals or the focus of your class.

Although the bulk of my experience has been working as a tutor with current students, I have also taught Spanish as a private instructor. In these sessions I am able to custom-fit the class to each student’s experience and goals. I use both text and multimedia materials as well as a variety of internet resources so that the language learning continues past our tutoring sessions.

World History

I love history! History can be a fascinating mystery or it can be a boring waste of time, and I believe that it all depends on your teacher. I majored in History at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside in Kenosha, WI with a specialization in Asian History. I chose to become an historian because I had history teachers that helped me to see history as more than just a list of dead guys and dates, to see the story and to try to solve the mysteries. I know not everyone has gotten this experience in class, and that is why I tutor.

Also, because such a large part of studying history is writing about it, I also tutor in writing. I will not write the paper for you, but I can help you proofread your paper, find resources when your research is missing support, and I can help you edit your paper so that it is clear and concise.

Writing

If you need help with the technical aspects of writing - proofreading, grammar, constructing a proper sentence and paragraph, organization of your ideas, editing a paper after the 1st or 2nd draft - I can help. I won't write it for you, that isn't learning, but I will help you to take your ideas and present them in the proper structure. I can help with a paper that is at any stage from brainstorming to final edit.

Exceeded Expectations!

I am very happy to have found this site and to have found Abby. She is well qualified to provide instruction and assistance in all subjects. Her ability to interact and her creative teaching methods are a large key to the success we are having with her! She doesn't just talk, she teaches by showing - whether its playing games or measuring obscure items in the room to teach a point. We have made
