In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have more than 19 years experience with Adobe Photoshop. I teach it with a print, video and design perspective.
This study starts by presenting basic elements of photography: composition, lighting and capture techniques. By understanding these elements it makes the tools of the program easier to learn and make more sense.
In Photoshop we take digital images, determine the appropriate format for the chosen purpose, edit the image using Photoshop tools, size the image and file formats for saving.
Once the image is complete, we work with how to prepare the image for distribution for print, web or video. Photoshop helpful tools will be examined when working with the areas of distribution.
Once the study is completed, the student will be confident in his ability to produce a Photoshop image for the chosen project.
As a Graphic Manager and Project coordinator, I have trained many associates in software applications. Over 7 years' experience with web site creation using Adobe Dreamweaver, Word Press, Microsoft Publisher, Corel Paint Shop Pro and basic HTML. I have a strategy that I use that helps facilitate learning.
The first step is to understand structure of what you are creating, doing your research, outlining your project and then creating the materials using various applications.
Once the core concepts are understood, my students will have a clear understanding of what it takes to create and publish whatever they plan.
Having actively used Adobe Dreamweaver for the past 7 years, I have been able to train associates on how to create web sites from creation to completion. My approach is systematic so that a student learns essential concepts quickly.
The best way to learn Dreamweaver is by starting with the domain registration, and then creating the pages for the site. Making sure that SEO (search engine optimization) is met.
My personal experiences with SEO help me relay to students what it takes to bring their web sites to the front page of the search engines using Dreamweaver features.
This course will examine the basics of HTML code and enable students to be able to write HTML code in their web pages.
Microsoft Excel is such a versatile program. I concentrate on the structure of the program, the tools and how to use them to create reports for presentations and analysis.
After speaking with the student and finding their level of expertise, I work with them to strengthen their weaknesses and move them forward.
To work with Microsoft Excel efficiently, the student must learn the basic functions. The first step is where the basics are presented (or reviewed). We examine each tool so that the student is confident in the application.
The study then moves into how to use the program to create charts and mathematical calculations for reporting and analysis. We write formulas to carry out the functions.
Next is exporting the reports into documents and emails.
My goal for the student is to become confident and successful in creating the documents of their choosing.
My study with Microsoft Publisher features the tools of the program to create web pages, brochures, certificates and customized documents.
Studies include: choosing the appropriate document, creating an outline, working with templates, choosing colors - fonts - graphics - photos, writing content, sizing elements, editing changes, saving formats, uploading to a web site, and finer details.
Assignments will include creating a trifold brochure, a web site landing page, an order form and another document of the student's choice. The assignments allow the student to use what is shown so that they have an active working knowledge of the application and what makes a great document.
Any version of Microsoft Publisher can be used for this study. I have more than 8 years of experience with this application. There will be many examples presented which I have created which will be included in this study.
My professional experience with Windows PC computers is derived from my experience as an IT for several companies. I was responsible to maintain Microsoft Windows computers and servers. My experiences included mentoring employees in both systems operations and applications with Windows operating PCs.
Mentoring includes system setup, installing applications and maintaining browsers, and security.
My photography course explains the three basic controls which creates a photograph. Digital photography will be examined in detail so that the student has a clear understanding of how images are created, and how to control the quality of the images for printing and on the web.
I have been a photographer for 50 years and can easily draw from my professional experience to relay photographic concepts to the student. Once the study is complete, students will be able to apply what they learned to their school and personal photography projects.
When I teach video, I draw upon my 18+ years of experience from creating special event videos, weddings, and commercial shorts.
For my video teaching I include shooting, editing and distribution. The elements to create great video and multimedia products includes: planning, outlining, scheduling, scripting, working with talent, location shooting, lighting, the audio elements, about copyrights and video recording formats.
Once video is recorded, study continues with digital editing. I have experience with several video editing programs. My preference is with Sony Vegas Platinum as the featured application, and Windows Movie Maker as the simple alternate.
Editing features will include: clip naming conventions, archiving, editing tools, credit options, adding audio (voice & music), and integrating the completed video with YouTube and web sites.
The student will be able to record a video, edit and distribute it in a format of choosing.
Video is my passion, and I infuse my multimedia talent into this course. Students taking this course will have a wonderful working knowledge in producing quality video products.
Web design is composed of many elements which are brought together to create a visual presentation on the internet. When I teach, I present each of the elements and then show the student how to bring them together to create their own web site.
My studies include developing a concept and carrying it out until completion. The study includes: all about domains, composition basics, fonts, colors, graphics, photographs, video, and writing content. The web site will be created using Wordpress or Adobe Dreamweaver with application of HTML coding.
When the web pages are created, special attention is given to landing pages, search engine optimization with PPC, organic positioning and social networking.
Once the student has completed the training, they will have the knowledge to create a web site from beginning to end and will learn what can bring their site to the top of the search engines for maximum exposure.
The study is setup with assignments so that each element is understood.
