About Jessica

Hi there!

As a detail-oriented and passionate writer with years of English editing, tutoring, and technical writing experience, I learned early on in my academic career that what motivates me is helping individuals become better writers.

I hold a BA degree in English: Rhetoric and Writing with a Creative Writing minor from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. As an undergraduate, one of my most rewarding experiences was as a writing tutor for ESL students; I edited and proofread multiple academic writing pieces and helped implement strong words/phrases, sentence structure, and other professional writing techniques to help create a successful piece. Above all, as a Rhetoric and Writing major, I wrote dozens of academic papers that required exemplary editing and proofreading skills.

I truly love to write and help others strengthen their writing. There is nothing more rewarding than taking my hobby—my passion—of writing and seeing it emerge into a career.

I am currently a freelance editor and writer for Elance/Upwork, an online freelance marketplace. Among my duties a freelancer, I edit, proofread, and organize various writing projects for a variety of clients; with this, I am required to respond to varying needs of the client daily and serve as an excellent communicator throughout the writing process. As a result, I have developed ongoing business by maintaining close client relationships. With this position, I have gained entrepreneurial experience that has allowed me to showcase my expertise in grammar, punctuation, and various other facets of the English language.

My dedication to perfecting your work is without equal, as I not only have the necessary experience, but also a passion to establish lasting relationships with my clients.

Thank you for this opportunity and I look forward to hearing from you!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Reading

More about my Reading and Writing Expertise:

As an undergraduate, one of my most rewarding experiences was as a writing tutor for ESL students; I thoroughly read, edited, and proofread multiple academic writing pieces and helped implement strong words/phrases, sentence structure, and other professional writing techniques to help create a successful piece.

Further, as an undergraduate I held the position of Poetry Editor to help publish Steam Ticket: A Third Coast Review, a nationally recognized literary journal through my university. In this position, I reviewed hundreds of pieces of literature for publication while managing nine staff members; with this, I learned how to collaborate with others to meet tight project deadlines. As a result, we finished ahead of schedule and received high praise from local writers. This position allowed me to showcase vital skills in reading, content organization, and proofreading English.

Above all, as a Rhetoric and Writing major, I wrote dozens of academic papers that required exemplary reading, editing, and proofreading skills. I truly love to write and help others strengthen their writing skills!
