Fox Valley Technical College (English)
Hello, everyone, my name is Heather and I'm your friendly neighborhood English nerd.
I have a particular talent in writing techniques and reading comprehension. Currently, I'm a substitute Special Education Aide in two local school district [Wrightstown and Stockbridge]. I have experience working with elementary through high school students in every subject. I was a volunteer for six months for a school district [Chilton] in 2014 and 2015 working with middle school students in reading and learning disability classes.
Currently, I have a TESOL (Teaching English as a Second Language) certificate through Fox Valley Technical College. I have teaching and instructional aide experience through Fox Valley Tech and Chilton Public Schools.
I believe in a visual and active teaching method when tutoring and teaching classes. I believe a student needs to visual see what they're learning and then actively work on the task through activities or online and sensory games. Every student learns differently. It's the job of the teacher and tutor to figure out how a student learns best.
Every student can achieve state and personal goals while in school. I had a reading disability all the way through middle school and found a way to overcome my struggles and now pursue to help others. I have a younger sister who has a reading and learning disability; I'm her tutor and have helped her become successful in school. Your child or sibling can do the same.
You won't possibly succeed; you will succeed! Happy studying and feel free to contact me with any questions. Hello, everyone, my name is Heather and I'm your friendly neighborhood English nerd.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have been praised for my drawing ability in the past. I took art classes throughout my high school career and got my artwork in the Manitowoc Art Museum three years in a row. I have also taken two Fox Valley Technical College art courses in Chilton. I'm also a illustrator for a series of children's books.
I have experience helping students in grades 3rd-8th. I volunteer every Friday at Chilton Public Schools helping 5th graders and students who have reading/learning disabilities. I plan on continuing my education to get a Bachelors degree in ESL. I love working with teenagers! I have a younger sister who is a 9th grade who I've been helping in English. I helped her get her first A!

I have been a member of the Wisconsin Writers Association since 2012. This last May I was a speaker at the Lakefly Conference in Oshkosh with the Wisconsin Writers. My degree, Teaching English as a Second Language, has opened many paths for me and working with students is one of my passions.
