I have been tutoring at NWTC in the writing center for almost two years now. My specialty is writing but I also work with the social science program (sociology and psychology). I get a lot out of tutoring, I enjoy giving students the confidence they deserve when it comes to writing. It can be a scary task for many people, but my goal is to work through the problems with the students and create a comfortable working environment.
I go into tutoring with a lot of patience. I do not expect the student to understand what to do right away. I understand that writing comes easier to some people than others. I take things one step at a time and make sure that the student feels comfortable to ask me a question at any time.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
