I have eight years professional experience using multisensory phonics methods to teach struggling readers. For seven years I managed the state's oldest and largest volunteer literacy agency, which provided phonics instruction to hundreds of adult students per year. I personally tutored students, and arranged for staff and volunteers to be trained in multisensory phonics tutoring methods. I now tutor dyslexic children at the Masonic Childrens' Learning Center where I am part way through a one year credentialing process. I hold a license from the State of Wisconsin to teach multisensory phonics at a Milwaukee Charter School. I am an active member of the Orton-Gillingham Academy, the International Dyslexia Association, and the Wisconsin Reading Coalition.

My primary interest is assisting dyslexics. Through my own family's experience with a dyslexic child I have come to understand the needs of dyslexics and how to teach reading in a way that works! Using Orton-Gillingham based materials, including Wilson Reading System, I tutor those who struggle with traditional methods. My tutoring, correct materials and the student's desire to succeed comprise the winning formula! I teach Orton-Gillingham methods part-time at a Milwaukee Charter School and tutor dyslexic children at a local nonprofit agency. I am motivated to help you; I feel confident you can succeed!

Students with dyslexia and other language processing disorders benefit from multisensory tutoring methods. I am trained in Orton-Gillingham, certified by IMSLEC (International Multisensory Language Education Council)and ALTA (Academic Language Therapy Association). I hold a license in Special Ed (aide)from Wisconsin DPI and taught K-12 students in a charter school for students with special needs.

Excellent, the very best

My nephew did long term tutoring with Barb. She is outstanding. She was there with him in each moment, catching the difficulties and continually breaking down the learning process into smaller and smaller pieces until he could find the part he could do, gradually building more and more confidence and skill. Barb is kind, generous, positive, and fun. She presented good challenges all along the way. Couldn't have asked for a better person and teacher.

Excellent and patient tutor.

I was impressed by Barbara's professional experience, demeanor, and office setting which makes it so easy for our son's lessons. She is able to handle his ADHD and difficulty focusing as well as help him overcome his struggles with reading. He really enjoys his sessions with her and reminds us whenever it's a tutoring day. We've been very happy!
