Does a blank page intimidate you? Do you hide from big writing assignments because you don’t know where to start? Do your great ideas fall flat on the page? Are your grades discouraging?

Hello! I live for the “lightbulb moments” when students go from confusion to clarity, and I have extensive experience helping students like you find success, overcome writer’s anxiety, and build self-confidence. In addition to seventeen years teaching English to middle and high school students, I have also taught composition at Marquette University and English fundamentals/conversational skills to non-native speakers at Gateway Technical College. Whatever your level, I’m here to help!

I am well-versed in the Common Core standards, and I can teach you how to use your teacher’s rubric as a powerful tool for success. I’m here to help you wherever you are in the process--brainstorming, outlining, organizing, editing, or all of the above!

Writing is not my only area of expertise. If you struggle with public speaking, I’m here to help with strategies to overcome anxiety and craft an awesome presentation that will have your audience engaged. If you want to boost your reading and vocabulary skills, I have the knowledge and resources to help you. If you need to “talk out” a story idea or practice your conversational English skills, I’m here for you.

Let me help you see how rewarding learning can be. Let’s get started on your learning journey!

Please Note: Should you need to cancel your appointment, please contact me using the Wyzant messaging system at least 12 hours prior to your scheduled appointment to avoid being charged.

Grammar,

Grammar

From an early age, I have been fascinated by language and how words fit together. Not satisfied that a sentence merely "sounds right," I needed to know the rules. After earning two English degrees, I've spent the past 17 years helping students piece together the grammar puzzle. I am energized when students develop the editing skills they need to become effective, impressive writers.

I will clarify content, answer questions, reword as necessary, and clean up grammar, punctuation, and spelling. My staunch commitment to excellence will save you time and make your writing the best it can be.

Because professional development is essential, I am committed to staying up-to-date on best practices, Common Core standards, and professional literature. Nice and kind teacher

Brooke was well prepared for first session. We had a good start with evaluating my level, watching a short movie and working on some vocabulary. I’ve got my homework and already started to work on it. I’m looking forward to next session.

Knowledge and patient

Brooke is teaching me has to understand the gist of a passage to spot the right answers on a section of the praxis test. She has taught me how to spot out transitional words to help organize my thoughts about what going on in the passages. She is patient with me in my questions I ask her. She is well organized herself. I like that. I have homework too. 😊
