My name is JoAnne and my ultimate goal is to earn my PhD and become a professor of History. I have an undergraduate degree from the University of Minnesota Twin Cities in History, Educational Psychology, and Aerospace Studies. I have a Master's Degree in International Studies from Old Dominion University. I have experience as a teaching assistant at the university level and have tutored students ranging from elementary school to undergraduates.
I have experience working with students with ADD/ADHD as well as anxiety. I myself suffer from dyscalculia (numeric dyslexia), and have taught myself how to overcome that challenge. While each of us experiences our challenges differently, I believe that I am more empathetic to the frustrations and anxieties faced by students with learning challenges.
As a tutor, I believe that it is important to develop a learning plan tailored to each student. I approach tutoring in an organized way that allows ongoing evaluation of progress based on measures of success. I look forward to working with you/your student to create a learning plan. Hello!

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
My undergraduate degree included a minor in Educational Psychology. I know how to create lesson plans for students with ADD/ADHD. I have tutored ADD/ADHD students at the elementary and university levels. I am a patient tutor.
I have experience as a coach for the forensics/competitive speech team at a high school in Wisconsin. I am also a member of the National Theater Honor Society, and I have a good deal of experience speaking in academic and professional settings.
I have taken coursework at the undergraduate level in study skills as part of my educational psychology minor. I have also tutored students in time management, organization, and best practices. I tailor the program to each student so that I may play to their strengths as we improve their weaker areas.
