Do you live in: Othello, Connell, Eltopia, Pasco or anywhere north of the Tri-Cities? If so, I am happy to inform you that my schedule puts me in your area during the week. This means that you have the opportunity for quality tutoring for your middle school/high school/college student.
I offer group rates, so you have the opportunity to team up with a buddy and receive an immediately effective discount of ten dollars each (minimum session time of 1.5 hours). The more students, the greater the discount (Not exceeding 5 students total). We can hold lessons at a library, a student's home or even in a tack room out back, if it's quiet and comfortable! I am flexible in this regard.
Even if your student is doing well in school, offer them a bit of relief now and then in the form of an experienced tutor. Not only will they understand their studies with a new and fresh perspective, there will be one more supporter of their success! This extra boost helps bolster a student's confidence, and they "attack" their work, instead of just "dealing with it."

BIO:
Stephen's recent employment history includes work as a tutor/educational assistant for school districts. The students he works with are represented by a wide variety and range of skill levels, ages and classes taken. Some of Wilson's prior work involved the education of special needs students. Here are some other things you should know about him:

- He continually encourages an excitement in learning, and demonstrates this excitement as he tutors.
- Stephen graduated from the University of Oregon in 2009 with a B.S. in political science. While there, he served in the student government's executive cabinet as the Nontraditional Student Advocate.
- Wilson utilizes Vygotsky's scaffolding method, as well as the "Zone of Proximal Development (ZPD)" method, to ensure maximum effectiveness in learning.
- He also puts to practical use the theory of Benjamin Bloom's Taxonomy and Howard Gardner's study of Multiple Intelligences to hone in on the learning style of the student, in order to maximize the effects of study.
- He is a self-publisher, and edits self-published books. Part of Stephen's interest in this area is the knowledge of publishing both paperback and electronic book versions.
- Stephen's tutoring philosophy: "My job is not to be the expert. My job is to condition the student to be the expert."

My current position within the school district, as a tutor for middle school and high school students, requires that I also provide comprehensive study skills programs suited for each student individually. For the past three years I have customized individual study plans for dozens of students. These students range in variety from online students to classroom students, from highly skilled students to special needs students, and all study plans require that I am familiar with the type of student and their specific skill sets and abilities.

My major in college was Political Science. Many of the classes I enjoyed included Political Parties, International Governments, Terrorism and Nuclear Proliferation and Inner City Politics. After I graduated, I ran as a write-in candidate for a local city council seat. I currently tutor middle and high-school students in political science as it pertains to their studies. This interaction ranges from helping with speeches and debates to discussing the different political and governmental differences among countries to the discussion of history.

Stephen really helped me with Excel and Word

Because I use both Excel and Word in my work, I know a lot about both programs, but needed to learn how to use the special features, and how to get rid of the intrusive settings and so forth in order to format things the way I want them. We hit it off very well, and I may call on him for a refresher in the future. Thanks for taking the time to understand my needs.

Anne, 1 lesson with Stephen
Tutor responded:

Anne, thanks for your kind words. It was a pleasure working with you, and I look forward to future lessons.

Great for every subject!

Steve has been a great fit for my brother, who is a sophomore doing Connections Academy. He has helped with many subjects including geometry, biology, and English and has helped him develop study and research skills. Geometry has been our biggest struggle, and Steve is able to explain it in a way that my brother understands which is invaluable! So glad we found Steve, and we will continue to have him come 2-3 times per week.

Amber, 29 lessons with Stephen
Tutor responded:

Thanks, Amber! It is a pleasure working with your brother. He is a hard worker, and he takes pride in a job well-done. I appreciate this, and I know that he continues to strive to accomplish his academic goals. Thanks again for the kind words.

Pleasant Surprise

Stephen has been working with my high school freshman for about a month. He is professional and motivated to help improve my student. He's taken time to evaluate what my student needs and has formulated a game plan to advance his knowledge. Looking forward to working with Stephen even more to see what he can accomplish.

Brian, 20 lessons with Stephen
