Hello and welcome!
As a former college writing center consultant, I understand what it is to be both the student and the tutor (and how unnerving it can be to share your work, even on days when your self-esteem is fairly intact). My technique is one that offers respect to the student, and the student's work and goals. I prefer to use a Socratic approach by asking the student questions and helping him/her think through obstacles. After using this method for over 10 years, I have found it not only empowers the student to take responsibility as a learner but also to develop problem-solving skills, thus requiring less frequent help from a tutor. I tutor an array of subjects, including reading, pace and pronunciation in speech, essay assignments, PowerPoint presentations, and out-of-class writing projects. I regularly collaborate with students, parents, teachers, and supervisors to determine student needs, develop tutoring plans, or assess student progress.
My personal research habits, education, and employment history have given me a wealth of experience in various subjects and have made me a well-rounded and thorough tutor. I am eager to hear from you so we can get started!
