I am a native German speaker, born and raised in Germany; I completed my studies of Marketing and Environmental Management at a German University and worked as a Marketing Manager in Hamburg. At age 30, I married and moved to the United States. My husband and I currently live in Vancouver/WA and have four boys in elementary, middle and high school respectively.
Teaching is my passion and I have been tutoring for over 30 years - first math to younger children while in High School, then math to fellow students while in college and later math plus German in the USA.
GERMAN: My experience includes translations (personal, academic and business subject matter) as well as tutoring classes from basic language concepts to social customs and traditions. I enjoy tutoring students of all ages and levels: from little toddlers being raised bilingual, students needing help with German classes to personal or business travelers preparing for their trip to German speaking countries.
MATH: My strength (and love!) is Algebra and everything leading up to it. From elementary school math through Algebra 2, I enjoy teaching kids the basic concepts and helping them see how logical (and yes, fun) math really is. As of recently, my sons have joined in and every now and then (if necessary and requested by students or parents) help out by explaining concepts on a "kid-to-kid" level.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have. I am looking forward to hearing from you.
Claudia Herzlich Willkommen!

Claudia has done a great job for my middle school son in Algebra. My son enjoys her lessons. Claudia is very caring, patience and really wants my son to learn.
Also very accommodating in meeting locations.
I am SO lucky to have found Claudia! Her patience, communication, knowledge, and teaching are top-notch. She listened to my objectives and created a plan that has worked perfectly with my goals. She understands what is needed to learn a foreign language and effectively, at that. Working with her for over five months, I have grown *incredibly* in my ability to both understand and participate in this language. In addition, I've learned so much about German culture and it has made me appreciate the lessons and this experience that much more. After trying and being disappointed in other programs to learn German, I am so very thankful for my sessions with Claudia.
We have met with Claudia twice. She is very easy to get to know and makes my husband and I feel like we really can learn German. Because she was raised in Germany and visits often she is very up to date on all the changes going on in Germany. She makes the lesson time fun while we are learning. Claudia has been patient but keeps us challenged and on task.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I love Algebra!
It's logical and fun and, unlike geometry, not too much to learn by heart. Pre-Algebra and Algebra have been my favorite subjects to teach to students for the past 20+ years. I started in high school, tutoring to younger children and all throughout college to my fellow students (undergraduate major in math, finished with MBA). Currently I teach 5th grade within the Vancouver School District. I believe it is important to not simply show students the solutions, but instead enable them to independently find solutions themselves using all available resources. Having four boys of my own in 5th, 7th, 9th and 12th grade respectively (all in advanced math or IB classes), I am very familiar with the resources available as well as the math curriculum used within the Vancouver and surrounding school districts.
Math is my passion. I especially like to teach young minds the basic concepts and strategies, all the while keeping it fun for them. I used to tutor math in high school to younger children and all throughout college to my fellow students (my undergraduate major was math, went on to graduate with MBA. Having four boys of my own in 3rd, 5th, 7th and 10th grade respectively (all in advanced math classes, I am very familiar with the curriculum used as well as the (online and offline) resources available within the Vancouver and surrounding school districts.
English is my second language. I've gone through and passed the ESL requirements and exam a while ago (before immigrating into the US) and have worked on perfecting my English ever since. In addition I have tutored English (mainly in my native country of Germany) and am well aware of the differences between languages and the problems arising due to the variations in sentence structure, grammar, pronunciations etc.
I am a native German speaker. I was born and raised in Germany, completed university studies and started marketing career in Germany before moving to the United States at age 30. I am fluent in German and English in general as well as business subject matter. I have extensive tutoring experience through studying at CSUF and raising bilingual children (now in elementary/middle/high school respectively).
