Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Differential Equations

I took differential equations as part of my coursework in my BS in Mathematics. I did well in the course and had great success tutoring others in the subject both while I took the course and in subsequent semesters. It was one of my favorite courses.

Discrete Math

I have taught Discrete Math several times during my time teaching at Brigham Young University Hawaii. My student evaluations were consistently positive. My students were able to show proficiency in the subject during subsequent coursework.

Linear Algebra

I took Linear Algebra as part of my coursework in my BS in Mathematics. I did well in the course and had great success tutoring others in the subject both while I took the course and in subsequent semesters. I really enjoyed the course and had great success helping others understand the relevance of the concepts.

Praxis

I have taken the PRAXIS tests and received the following scores: PPST Reading 184, Writing 186, Math 188. PLT 184, Math Content 170, Math Pedagogy 170. In addition, I received certificates in Recognition of Excellence for scoring in the top 10% on the Math Content and PLT tests.

Sewing

I have been sewing for most of my life: well over 30 years. I can teach about choosing appropriate fabrics for a project, how to purchase the proper materials, how to lay out patterns and cut out the pieces, proper techniques for assembling the project, etc. I have experience in quilting as well as garment construction. I have made everything from simple skirts to blue jeans to formals and wedding dresses.
