Being in middle school isn’t easy. Anyone who’s ever gone through school could tell you that. Not to mention, being in middle school math! Instead of going at it with your parents/child about math homework again, OR getting called out in class without an answer, OR getting your phone taken away because you aren’t completing class work, OR just living with general dread and anxiety about your math experience, it’s time to face your fears and stand out in your math classroom!

Instead of going at it with your parents/child about math homework again, OR getting called out in class without an answer, OR getting your phone taken away because you aren’t completing class work, OR just living with general dread and anxiety about your math experience, it’s time to face your fears and stand out in your math classroom!

As a middle child, past middle school student and middle school math teacher myself (that’s a whole lot in the middle), I felt the need to come up with creative and relatable ways to help students overcome their math challenges. After all, you’re not the problem, you are the problem solver.

I am a graduate of the University of Puget Sound, where I completed a degree in Science, Technology, & Society, with minors in Public Health and Spanish. I completed my Master's in Education at UW Seattle with an interest in multicultural education (I enjoy working with multilingual students from a variety of cultural backgrounds). My state certifications are in Middle Level Math and Social Studies, but I am frequently adding endorsements to my certificate as needed. Feel free to reach out to me about math help, OR any other academic/organizational help you may need grades 4-9.

Working on Wyzant allows me the chance to teach students 1:1 on topic areas of their choice. Online tutoring makes learning more accessible for students so that they can learn from home (or wherever works best) to improve their academic experiences in a convenient and affordable way. I believe that every student should have the chance to get the help they need to be successful in their lives. So, getting to know you (your student) and your learning style is just as important to me as teaching you the content you want to learn. I like to think of myself as someone who's there for you and who has got your back when you need it!

My WA State Teacher Certification is in Middle Level Mathematics (grades 4-9) from the University of WA. I've been the department head, and program director of middle school math programs in the Greater Seattle Area. The transitional years in math are my speciality. Whether you are transitioning into high school and want to have a strong mathematical foundation or math is starting to become more complicated as you (or your student) enters middle school, I've been there! It's easy to let things slide in middle school because "it's not high school yet" or "because you'll figure it out later." Statistics show, however, that middle level math will either make or break your future math experiences. It's better to get help or ahead sooner than later!
