Hi! I'm Dean and I hope I can help you achieve your academic goals. I graduated cum laude from UC San Diego with a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy and a minor in Political Science. I completed a broad range of coursework as an undergraduate, resulting in four areas of focus: (1) Law, Ethics and Society (2) Science, Technology and Medicine, (3) Mind, Brain and Cognitive Science and (4) Historical Perspectives on Philosophy, Science and Religion. I have also completed all coursework for my M.A....

Hi! I'm Dean and I hope I can help you achieve your academic goals. I graduated cum laude from UC San Diego with a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy and a minor in Political Science. I completed a broad range of coursework as an undergraduate, resulting in four areas of focus: (1) Law, Ethics and Society (2) Science, Technology and Medicine, (3) Mind, Brain and Cognitive Science and (4) Historical Perspectives on Philosophy, Science and Religion. I have also completed all coursework for my M.A. in Philosophy (degree pending submission of thesis).

Although I enjoy working with students in-person, I do have considerable experience working with alternative forms of feedback. I co-published Exploring Video Feedback: Benefits for Instructors and Students in the journal Teaching Philosophy. I have provided video feedback for over 200 students at UC San Diego.

I am an enthusiastic and patient tutor with three years experience as an educator. At UC San Diego I was a Teaching Assistant for undergraduate philosophy courses for two years. I then worked for the Warren College Writing Program as a Writing Instructor, teaching Freshman and Sophomores the core skills needed to write argumentative academic essays. I have 10+ years of martial arts training in a wide range of disciplines, but primarily focusing on Muay-Thai and Karate. I've trained at various local gyms across California, Texas and Washington, as well as more famous gyms such as Black House and Alliance MMA. I enjoy working with students of all skill levels and all age ranges. Martial arts is a great tool to enhance fitness and self-discipline while also cultivating a valuable skill. I highly recommend my hybrid academic/martial-arts program for students who have trouble focusing, or who could benefit from alternative reward mechanisms.
