About Jessica

My love of tutoring began in 2008 when I began working for the Louisiana State University's Academic Center for Student Athletes. There, I tutored many college athletes in English, Public Speaking, and study skills while working toward my master's degree in Art History.

My military husband and I were married in 2013, and since that time I've been fortunate enough to move all across the country. We've found our forever home in Washington and I've been fortunate enough to employed by an amazing on base library that gives me the incredible opportunity to get kids and teens excited about reading. Because of this, I consider it one of the best jobs in the world.

I received my bachelor's degree in Mass Communications with an emphasis in Public Relations. I have worked with students on speech preparation and presentation as well as English and Writing course work. I have a passion for reading and love to spread that joy to others. There isn't an AR test in the world that scares me!

My master's degree is in Art History, specifically Italian Renaissance, but throughout my time at Louisiana State University I took many modern art classes and ethics in art seminars. Architecture as art was also within my course work. My thesis, "The Ornamentation of Brunelleschi's Old Sacristy of San Lorenzo in Florence, Italy" can be found online and was published under my maiden name Jessica Lynne Clinton.

I would love to help you or your student to better their grades, increase confidence, and find a love of liberal arts! Please contact me to schedule your tutoring session. I greatly look forward to hearing from you.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

English

I am an experienced tutor (collegiate level) and someone who absolutely loves this subject. I work at the McChord Library during the day and have access to excellent materials to enhance sessions.

Public Speaking

My undergraduate degree in Mass Communications afforded me with many opportunities in public speaking as well as taking several public speaking classes. I tutored student athletes in this subject while working for the Academic Center for Student Athletes at Louisiana State University. My method for this particular subject was to practice giving speeches in small groups (typically a 1:1 ratio). The students would offer each other positive critiques and at the end of the session we could discuss things that we could all improve on. I would really like to incorporate video into my sessions, since it will be only one student being tutored at a time, so that students could watch themselves giving the speeches and do self critique, offering both positive and constructive criticisms of their performance. This subject, in my opinion, is learned best by doing, and I really enjoy watching students gain self confidence when working toward their goal in public speaking.
